Brad is an expert with decades of professional experience he is keen to share with others. His experience in industry and academia shine through in his fantastic teaching style that perfectly blends theory and practice. The AST-1 course culminates with a full day day ski touring, a great introduction to snow science and some fun beacon work. There is a lot of value added when you take a course from Brad, who has endless positive energy, including an avalanche of additional resources for lifelong learning in the back country.

Colwest is most definitely my go-to for avalanche safety courses! Brad and his instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, and fun to spend time with! He is thorough in both explaining the theory and also teaching the practical application of skills so that you come out of a course feeling competent and prepared. I've taken my AST 1 and 2 with Brad and have had stellar experiences, and have highly recommended Colwest to all of my adventure friends (even from outside of Kamloops!). Brad is also very involved in the Kamloops backcountry community and hosts safety and gear talks through the year. Thanks for all that you do, Brad!

Colwest Alpine Adventures
Our group had a wonderful time with Brad during our AST 1 course. Theory lessons were hosted online, were very well structured, and discussion and questions were encouraged. The weekend was spent on the mountain applying theory and practicing skills.Brad is very knowledgeable and great at explaining the underlying science and translating it into real world examples on the mountain.He is also a very nice and approachable guy! If you are looking into AST classes I highly recommend contacting Brad!

Did the ast 1 course with Brad in March 2023.Really well run and covered a lot of info. Nicely set up with 2 classroom sessions and 2 field days so lots of time to soak it in and ask questions. Will be doing my ast 2 with Colwest eventually.

My AST 2 coarse with Colwest was more valuable than I ever expected. The guys just have so much experience, it’s like they intuitively know the best way to deliver the information so it is fully understood by each individual. Very practical, amazing locations and a fun group of guys!

I took Brad's AST1 course and have now followed it up with the more intense AST2 and it was a great experience. The trip planning aspect and decision making in the field were the highlight, with terrain reading a major focus. I highly recommend getting immersed in all aspects from planning, to leading, but the key is listening for all Brad's little tips and tricks to make your backcountry experience even more enjoyable.
