Chartwell Royal Park

My parents lived here for about a year before my dad's death in January 2018, and my mother is still in residence. They loved it and we love the care they receive there. Homecare came in and helped us care for Dad until 1 day prior to his death, so it is just like being in your own home. The residence is kept very clean, food is good and the staff are superb. They let us know if Mom's behaviour is off, they help her when she has any questions or problems, and they are always kind. The social scene is amazing with putting, bingo, happy hours, live music, special parties, outings, and much more. I understand there is a doctor who comes to see some of the clients, as well as hearing aid personnel and a foot care nurse. The Beauty Parlour is one floor down!There are snacks most mornings, but my parents never wanted more than the one substantial meal that is provided daily. Cooking breakfast kept them busy and allowed them to NOT overeat and to prepare things they enjoyed. Compare prices with the lodges which serve 3 meals a day - the two we looked at were much more expensive, and the locations were not as good.This residence has been a Godsend.

I love living here because the staff and fellow residents are very friendly and willing to help me. The varied activities that are offered are well suited to us residents. I am pleased to recommend Royal Park as a home for people who need extra support.

EmployeeThis is absolutely a wonderful environment to work at. Supervisor’s are always willing to jump in and help. The residents are always doing activities, being greeted with kindness and respect and the environment is balanced and grounded. General manager (Kim Grant) and her outstanding staff are always there to make this a spectacular enjoyable experience for staff and residents. If you want to feel appreciated and work with resident care this is definitely the place to be.

My mother has been a resident here for several years. She is well cared for, eats delicious meals, has been well protected during the pandemic and receives amazing onsite home care. The staff is excellent. My mother feels safe here and is very happy. I am impressed by her experience here.

Our mom moved into Chartwell Royal Park at the beginning of the pandemic. The team has continually taken great care, demonstrated patience and provided a safe haven during difficult times. The facilities, meals and activities have exceeded our expectations. Mom sings with the choir and it brings her and us great joy. With the staff providing care and personal attention to our mom, we know that she is in safe hands.

Our 90 year old close relative lives in Chartwell Royal Park Retirement Residence in SW Calgary, near Mount Royal University. It has been very beneficial. She takes care of her own breakfast and lunch in a one-bedroom apartment, has dinner in the dining room and participates in exercise classes, a Jeopardy contest, visiting choirs and other activities. Library, Movie Room, and there is a large Kitchen & Dining Area that can be booked. She has a wearable emergency call button provided. Apartment cleaning service and utilities is included. Telephone, Cable TV and Internet services you pay for individually, as well as Tenant Insurance, Parking space if you have a vehicle and Storage Locker if you want it. Transportation for grocery shopping, banking and outings is provided, book early as the bus is not large. Friendly, helpful staff. Disadvantages: no air conditioning so very hot in the summer, limited resident parking, maintenance services slow to non-existent if it is not urgent, food service provided when one is sick is sometimes not very palatable. For visitors: Some designated parking slots and street parking (ask for parking permit if parking for more than an hour on the street), rentable cot to use in apartment, and sometimes one can rent a guest suite.

All of the staff I have spoken with have been super warm and welcoming and willing to go the extra mile to accommodate my Dad's needs. Katharine, the Retirement Living Coordinator, has been extremely helpful in getting my Dad settled in as a new resident. She has been amazing in helping the family coordinate my Dad's move-in details and made sure he has everything he needs to be comfortable there. She even went out to the store and got a new phone for his unit so that he wouldn't lose touch with family since all of us live out of town! My Dad has already told me how friendly all the residents are to him and that everyone knows his name after just 1 week there! I highly recommend Chartwell Royal Park to anyone looking for a cozy and friendly place for their loved one!
