Best Western Plus Bowmanville

I’ve stayed here countless times but now I don’t believe I’ll be returning. Upon check in I was asked to pay a debit deposit which is completely fine, however the gentleman working the desk said that “it’s more expensive because they have to judge guests based on their appearance.”. I have absolutely no clue what he was referring to as I don’t feel my appearance is different than anyone else’s. I was dressed in jeans and a winter jacket, yet he made a big deal about how it’s “not fair but we have to judge on the way you look for how much of a deposit to get”. That statement alone and the fact that he felt the need to tell me about several times was already enough to throw me off.This morning when checking out, I returned the key and asked for my deposit to then be refunded to be met with the woman behind the counter seeming extremely bothered by the fact that I needed my deposit returned. After the room had been checked she punched in the incorrect number, to which I corrected her and presented her with a receipt for the correct amount of my deposit. She snapped and said she “didn’t need a receipt” before correcting the mistake. I had no issue paying the deposit, but I expect fair treatment and for my deposit to be refunded without attitude or issue as per the agreement.

The room was clean and comfortable, but showed some wear.The Black out curtains had some small pin holes, and didn't want to stay closed, but a trip to the dollar store for some clips should help remedy that.The pool area looks nice and inviting, and the complementary breakfast is something I am looking forward to trying in the morning.

Very friendly staff. The hotel looks very shabby from the outside. Some nice updates have been made, but hopefully more is going to happen in the future. The parking lot was really dirty as if people hang out there and party. Our room was clean but the carpeting makes it seem less clean. Nice shower and toiletries. The breakfast included with our room was actually quite good with a nice lady making omelettes to order. We slept good and all the staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. Good place for sleep and close to restaurants.

This trip was with our two grandchildren so we needed a separate bedroom to put the younger to bed. The bedroom was the only satisfactory part of the room. Floor was lifting in the “sitting room”, the window had a large crack in it and there was some “mold looking stuff on that same window. No plug for the bathtub, the sofa was what you would find someone throwing in the dump, the blow dryer didn’t work. Spoke to a nice lady on the evening shift (Amber) who said “they knew about that room” and she immediately replaced the blow dryer but I would need to speak to her boss, on the day shift (her name was either Diane or Emma) she did not introduce herself they way Amber did. I spoke to her quietly and if someone walked in I stopped talking till they left. I was very polite and calm and just explained I was very disappointed in the condition of the room. She could definitely use some customer service training! She did not care at all, “didn’t you get a new blow dryer” she asked. “I will get maintenance to give you a plug for the tub”, didn’t happen. “Didn’t you look at the pictures on the website before you booked”? “If you want to leave I will let you leave and refund your time left”. Try doing that during March break when everything is booked solid. And we all know the website pictures make it look better than it is. At the very least I was hoping for a little understanding. She was very “I could care less”. And to add insult, we could not get a military veteran rate as it was “not available” for this room. The best part of this hotel was the amazing lady who managed the breakfast room. We have always stayed at Best Western and I will try to be open minded next time as I know there are some very good ones.

While the hotel isn’t glamorous it is safe and clean. All the amenities are available. The staff is amazing. The front desk (Amber) and Manager (Diane) went above and beyond to help my family during our stay. They didn’t even need to but they exceeded my expectations and I am grateful. I have stayed here before and I will stay again. Bonuses: food is close, pool, breakfast and good parking.

Stayed for business Sunday - Friday. Corner room was small and dimly lit. The fridge was great though with great capacity.One night when I went to take a shower, there was no hot water. I went down to service desk where I was told they were aware and hoping to have it back in the morning. I was offered a discount, though they didn't say how much. After I checked out, I saw it was $40 when I was paying $120+tax/night.I've since learned that other hotels offer a better corporate rate and better rooms so will likely try to make those arrangements next time.

Managed to get a room with a king sized bed for a pretty good price. Friday hit and all of the hotel prices in Oshawa went through the roof. I was staying at a hotel in Oshawa during the week, and it was a dump by comparison to this place. This hotel actually has a functioning pool. Also the two ladies at the front desk were very friendly and helped me out whenever I had any problems or questions. I also liked that the floor in my room was a mix of tile and hardwood. I didn't have to navigate around any nasty stained carpet spots.It's honestly worth spending the extra money as opposed to staying at the roach motel next door. There's also some dining places in the plaza so you don't really have to worry about ordering delivery. All in all, very satisfied with my stay.

A little dirty, no outside walk outs, pool shallow and small. But the breakfast was amazing, could of had a better selection of fresh fruit. Conveniently right off the 401 with a variety of restaurants in the nearby plaza.

Room was expensive for what we got. Room smelt like urine, fridge did not work. And unable to close blinds and was on the first level. Room was not clean. Would not recommend.
