The City Painters

When I first contacted The City Painters, the only thing I had sought out was an estimate for my main hallway. Before I knew it, I found that they had quickly gained my trust and were well on their way to completely retouching the rest of my home. They were tenacious, professional, skillful, and incredibly personable people. What set them apart to me from other painting operations on top of their work was their knack for explaining things that mattered to my family. These were questions we had ranging from colour concepts, protocol, and even to the techniques they were using.They were a portrait of what quality work should look like and an even better example of how to form a lasting business relationship. The time and care they put into making sure my family and I were pleased has not gone unnoticed as we have long since put forth their names anytime we've been asked if we know of any great painters. For what it's worth, I think they're very capable of tackling any job it is that you may have in mind. Why not give them a try?

My experience with the City Painters was beyond exceptional. From the very beginning I could tell that there was something special about Matthew. The level of costumer care was incomparable. I was well advised, and re-assured by the level of knowledge and care demonstrated. The attention to detail, quality of work, and efficiency was second-to-none. The City Painters were very flexible and acknowledged and addressed all of my concerns. I thought I could paint two rooms in my condo myself before the furniture arrived. When the delivery date was moved up, I had a short timetable. Mathew and John were quick to turn around an estimate and could schedule a one-day job within my timetable. They fixed problem areas neatly, and did a great job. I'm very pleased and hope to work with them again (after some other renovations).

Contacted City Painters because of their Homestars rating and selected them based on cost and availability - would not select them again. They quoted based on pictures we sent them and before confirming colour selections or clarifying what was included/excluded from the scope of work. We had asked in our email for a quote that included the painting of all walls and ceilings.When they arrived they said columns in the walls as well as a partial wall below our windows were considered trim and not walls. They proceeded to paint the columns without checking with us regarding any additional cost and then said there would be an additional cost for the work completed.We had dark walls which we wanted to be painted white but they only quoted for two coats of paint. I would have expected experienced painters to know that white paint would not cover dark colours well and quote based on additional coats that might be required. Instead, they applied additional coats of paint without indicating any additional charges and then said there would be an additional charge after the fact.Overall quality wasn't great. Poor cutting in, brush streaks, missed parts of the ceiling all left us with additional work to do once they left. Several walls needed additional coats of paint (which they were happy to charge for) that we did ourselves as we were not going to pay them more for misquoting the job.Despite being told we had 12 ft ceilings they showed up without a ladder to reach the ceilings. Their paint selection isn't great, using a contractor grade paint that is meant for new walls.

After hiring a painter who made a disaster of painting the popcorn ceiling in son's condo, we soon realized we needed a professional to 'fix' the problems created.Enter John Fry, Operations Manager at The City Painters and his amazing plasterer Nick and painters Gina and Dave.From the initial phone call until the job was done, John monitored progress of the job throughout. He updated us regularly about the days and time his people would arrive and the work that would be done.What an absolute delight to deal with a company who say what they will do and follow through accordingly. John's frequent communications left us feeling the job was in good hands and we would be more than satisfied with the end result. Which we were. We extended the job from not only the ceiling but also the walls and closets.Our son was on a tight budget and John worked with us to keep costs under control by suggesting areas we could tackle ourselves.A job that started out with another painter from another company who did a terrible job, has turned out to be an amazing transformation by The City Painters.I would highly recommend The City Painters. They do excellent work at a fair price.

I contacted City Painters about a job for a rental property we own remotely (we live in Vancouver and rent out a property in downtown Toronto).Matt and his team were extremely helpful and responsive, and while the job turned out to be much bigger than first expected (we ended up hiring a contractor to rip and replace two windowsills), Matt and his team were supportive and helped to advise us on the situation along the way.I will 100% go back to City Painters for our next job. I hired City Painters a couple of months back. I dealt with Matthew who was very professional and a pleasure to deal with. I got them to paint my 1800 sq foot house. They showed up on time each day and were done within a weekend. I had scratches and dents on my wall caused by my dog and they took care of that no problem as well. The finished product was amazing. The colour has stayed true till this day and there have been no problems what so ever. I get a lot of compliments on the job done as well as the colour. If you're looking for a painter, I would give City Painters a try. Fair priced and efficient.

John, Matt, and the rest of their team were amazing to work with. Everyone I talked with was patient and took the time to answer my (many) questions. When we settled on work to be done I felt like I was making the best choice. They were very responsive both by phone and by email. On the day-of they arrived on time (actually, a little early!) and started right away. I'm thrilled with the work the painters did - it looks great.

We were in a bind and contacted Matthew. He squeezed us in and had our 3 bedroom condo painted in one day, the very next day! They were professional, meticulous and got the job done right! Very happy with their work and look forward to having them come paint our new home!
