Just spent an incredible two hours at the Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History. From the moment we walked through the door, to the moment we left, we were treated like family. Our 11 year old had a project to do for school so we made the 2+ hour drive and are certainly glad we did. Those hesitant to go with children, shouldn't be! Jackie provided an age-appropriate description of history and historical artifacts that was interactive and engaging. The gift shop had wonderful items at very reasonable prices. Our child will have an incredible project to present now! Thank you for a fabulous visit!

Superb exposition of poorly-known part of Canada's history. Excellent interpretation, and great stock of books to buy for further reading. Definitely recommended.

Great tour . Jackie did a great job. I’ve known about the museum for years but have never been there. It’s worth going back.

Went many times as a chilld since I grew up near it, but took my own family recently and it's much improved. Lovely and modern visitor's centre now, beautiful restoration of certain buildings, etc. Fantastic way for children to learn about the underground railroad.

This hidden gem should be a destination spot for every Canadian, educator, history buff, and all around lover of people regardless of race. Learning who Josiah Henson was outside of being associated with Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beatrice Stowe was a paradigm shifting experience. As a Black person seeing and learning how 1 Black man was able to rescue his entire family plus 118 others from the evils of slavery, as a teen listened and memorized the bible because it was illegal to learn how to read to become a preacher and ultimately put Canada on the map as the only Black person to have an exhibit at Queen Victoria's world fair. The ability to achieve that and more in the face of such adversity is what should be taught in every school and a visit to the museum a must as a school trip. It's not just Black history. It's our history - Canada's history.

Jackie was amazing. She is very knowledgeable and able to share a lot of information to our group that we weren't aware of. Very educational. Would recommend the tour to others.

I was part of a bus trip and the tour of the Jodiah Hendon museum was excellent. First we had an informative tour of all the outbuildings and then we moved into the main presentation room and staff member Jackie spoke about Josiah Henson his contributions and achievements and linked it to the present. She did a fabulous job. There is so much to see and learn here our tour was over before we knew it. I recommend touring the Josiah Henson museum

A busload of 40 women from the Bob Hayward Y in London attended the museum on June 27 2023, and were impressed, educated and delighted with the presentation by Jackie Bernard. Her passion about the subject matter moved us all, and brought to life the trials and tribulations of the freed black slaves. The “true” story of Uncle Tom’s cabin is one we should definitely hear!

An amazing morning spend travelling back in the pages of History. Thank you Ms.Jackie and team for your kindness, knowledge and insight. The way in which you presented material was informative and sensitive to the ages of our kiddos (Lizzy: Age 5, Connor: Age 9). Beautiful facility and wonderful staff. Well worth the trip for anyone looking at learning more about Canada’s History.

So let me start off by saying the sign on the 401 doesn't do this place justice. It's not just a historical site, but actually a history lesson in slavery and the underground railroad. There is an education centre, a short film and a historical timeline of significant dates in history. Then outside, there are actual buildings to go in plus the burial grounds of Josiah Henson and his family. You should definitely check it out.
