Music Together of Kitchener-Waterloo

Both of our daughters have attended Music Together classes with Taryn and we were thrilled with the experience! We learned so much about how to share music with them, and had lots of family singalongs! Highly recommend the classes!

My daughter and I began Music Together classes when she was just 6 months old, and now she is 5. My son joined us when he was just 5 weeks old and he is now 3. As a family of 4, we have enjoyed singing, dancing, and playing instruments with Jodie every Saturday for my children’s entire lives, and we love it. She is part of our family! Their confidence as music makers...singing, dancing, keeping a beat, participating in class, has grown incredibly from these classes and I would recommend them to anyone.

Music Together is so much more than a music class. We started the program when my oldest was 2.5 years old and when my youngest was 6months old. It was such an awesome way to connect and explore music in a fun and relaxed setting with my kids. At home, my kiddos would sing songs, make their own music and it was such a joy to be a part of. Their creativity and joy amazed me. And, the CDs were golden for all car-rides & trips!! I learned so much about the cognitive and emotional benefits of having music as a foundation in my children's' development from instilling confidence, fostering creativity, and how music fires up the same connections that are used in language and math. I cannot say enough positive things about the program, our creative and amazing teacher Taryn, or the joy that Music Together brought our family and still does as we continue with the program and as my daughter has started to play the piano! Our family has been going to Music Together classes for over three years at this point and have loved every minute of it! The curriculum is sound, the teachers are amazing at improvising and meeting each child where they are at. Both my 4-year-old and 18 month old LOVE going. If I'm honest, it's also a highlight of my week. It gives me the chance to get in some (light) exercise while having fun with my kids. It's really fun to see them take home what they're learning and to watch them experiment with music in ways that they otherwise would not have. Jodie, the head honcho, is always friendly and fabulous and responds quickly whenever required (we had a weird situation with enrollment and I needed assistance) and Taryn (our class' teacher) meets my shy 4-year-old where she's at and knows when to encourage (push ;)) her and when to let her sit back and watch. I would (and have!) recommend Music Together KW to pretty much everyone without a second thought. Thanks for everything that you bring to our community!

My family has been attending music together for 4 years. It is so much more then just music instruction. Jodie brings so much passion and care into creating a safe space for parents to connect with their kids and other families. When my children and I enter Jodie’s classroom our worries are left at the door and music, dance and play fill our hearts with joy. There is never any judgement and we are celebrated and encouraged for being who we are as music makers. She inspires us to bring music into our everyday lives and models for us the power of music to connect with our children. I am forever grateful for the opportunities that KW Music Together has given our family.

I have been attending Music Together classes with some combination of my 3 children (now 8, 5 and 2), since my first born was just 6-months old. I have had a number of different teachers and felt strong connections with all of them. I run into other Music Together families out in the community often and it's always nice to see a familiar face. Music Together is perfectly named. These classes are as much about the music as they are about families spending 1-hour of time together... and the bonus is that it is enriched, screen-free time! My husband and I still use the Music Together library of songs for all kinds of parenting hacks". I can't say enough positive things about this group of music teachers and this curriculum. This program and Jodie specifically have changed the way that our family truly understands music from a developing child's perspective. There are so many benefits of this program:1. The music is purposeful. It's not just your standard kids music that's sung while kids run around listening to it. It's structured in a way that helps a child's mind grow, learning rhythm, tone, and impulse control. Another perk is that it's kids music that the adults in the room aren't completely annoyed with.2. JODIE is AMAZING. She's so energetic and engages with every single child individually, by name and caters to the way they're learning and understanding what they're hearing. Our daughter loves Jodie, especially when she brings her guitar out.3. We get music books for each session that have become a staple in our house. Each one is different, includes music that's familiar in one shape or another as well as music that I've never heard of before, likely because it was created by the programs creator.4. Our daughter engages with the other kids in the class (somewhat modified due to Covid but Jodie does her best to still optimize the experience) which is great for her socialization. They all have the music in common which is great for then and great for us as parents.I highly recommend this program to any new parents looking to engage their child in something highly meaningful from a very young age.

Our family has participated in Music Together of KW's classes for six years now. We've done the mixed-ages classes, Rhythm Kids, summer collections, and several parties and pop-up classes. Music Together has been one of the highlights of both my children's toddler and preschooler years, and the sense of community that Jodie and her team create is really delightful and was especially helpful during the start of the pandemic when we were all stuck at home, but we were able to continue with Music Together online. The curriculum is stellar (my husband and I are both professional musicians with multiple degrees so we're a bit picky about these things), and all of the teachers are amazing and bring their own personalities to their classes while still being faithful to the course material. I can't recommend MT of KW highly enough to introduce you and your children to making music.

We love KW Music together and my daughter has gone since she was six months old and she's now 2.5. The classes have provided such a great way for our family to sing dance and communicate with one another. I can't tell you how many toddler meltdowns have been addressed through singing and dancing as a distraction. It has given us a tribe of other parents who are trying to use music and movement to help their kids grow. Highly recommend this program and our favourite teachers are Chat and Sarah.

My son attended music together of KW for over 5 years .He absolutely loved the classes and the teachers. The teachers bring so much musical knowledge and energy to the classes! He learned rhythm, learned to sing, and now appreciates a variety of music from all over the world and in different languages. Some of our favourite memories with our child involve classes and events organized by Music Together. Music Together is not just music class; it's a community. We are so glad to be part of it. We think music will always be integral part of our son's life, thanks to Music Together of KW.
