Kadoya Japanese Restaurant
Passable food but rude service. We're host to family visiting in Vancouver and thought of going to a place we haven't tried yet. Kadoya was highly recommended by a friend and the ratings here seems to be high so we eagerly headed there for dinner.First, the good side. The portions were huge, and the presentation was excellent. Price also factors in and it hits the sweet spot–all items in the menu were reasonably priced. But aside from that, the food was average, nothing spectacular stood out. I tried a lot of Japanese restaurants and I was really hoping Kadoya will be at least meeting my expectations, but sadly they serve a dismally mediocre Japanese food. The sushi rice for example was not seasoned properly and somehow tasted dry (overcooked perhaps?). At least, the tempura was a bit better. Now, if it's average why leave just 2 stars and not at least 3? Listen to this. After we finished our food, we were chatting and relaxing a bit, when the waitress with a short hair came to our table and handed us our bill. Initially, we were confused and thought one of us requested it sent but it seems, no one did and that really gave us me a feeling she just wants us to leave. We all thought, that was rude. We're not even there for so long, an hour at least! For a customer who spent more than $150, at least give us a few minutes to relax and enjoy ourselves after eating.I don't think I'll be back here. The food I can forego, but rude service is never worth anyone's time and money!

Oh MY GOODness!!! This place is ONE OF THE BEST IN VANCOUVER in terms of bentos. I have a descriminating taste bud.... but the food here is just irresistably delicious. The sashimi was so fresh, salad was tasty, unagi and dynamite sushi were SOOOO GOOD that I had to uhmmm yummm! The tempura, nice and crispy. The friendly owner said their chef is from a 5 star hotel and she does the sushi herself with carefull attention. Im not surprised. Hmm staff are super nice and friendly. So I can only say, WE WILL BE BACK FOR MORE! The place is small so make reservations by calling before you go.

Just moved to Van, still trying out places, found this place as more budget friendly sushi.Ordered the Party A platter to go, maybe it’s not their specialty, but it was one the the worst platters I’ve had; fish pieces fresh but small, sushi rice overly pressed leaning towards mochi texture, lack of variety (1/2 of the platter being imitate crab meat + cucumber roll). -2*Service was ok, they were not busy, food was ready upon given eta, one thing that was impressive was the way they wrapped soy sauce into the take out utensils, very sturdy and made the takeout look a lot tidier, genius!Of the 4 sushi places I’ve tried so far, personally would prefer to spend just a tad more for better quality, bigger pieces of fish, and/or more variety.

We stopped by for a late dinner and loved every moment of it. The food was delicious, the ambiance quiet and cozy, and the staff were lovely. Will definitely be returning the next time we're in Vancouver!

If you're looking for a sushi restaurant with good quality sushi and balanced portions, this is not the place for you. It left me feeling extremely disappointed and unsatisfied. The restaurant had an excessive amount of rice in the sushi rolls. The rice completely overwhelmed the flavor of the fish, and it was clear that the restaurant was using rice as a cheap filler ingredient. The portions of fish and main ingredient was TINY.. leaving me feeling ripped off and still hungry despite the large amount of rice. This was my second visit and despite giving them a second chance the second time was worst.. look else where, there are great places around!

The Hamachi and Nigiri’s were delicious. The sushi was just okay it was a little too much sauce for my liking. All I tasted was the spicy mayo.

Kadoya is a pretty good Japanese restaurant. The food was prepared promptly and was tasty. It is a good location if you are looking for a quick bite. If you want a place with more ambiance or you have a larger group, you may want to go elsewhere since the restaurant is small and is really designed to seat people in groups of 2 or 4.The service was very good. Our waitress didn’t hover over us but was always there to take care of anything we needed.Their menu provides a decent variety of items including a nice selection of rolls and various staples such as bento boxes and rice bowls. Nothing really sets it apart from the many other options in the city but I would eat there again if I was looking for a quick and easy meal.

The worst California roll I’ve ever had while the rest was just mediocre. I would rather go to Tom sushi on the same street. Besides, right after we finished the last dish, we didn’t even ask for the bill but the waitress just handed it to us immediately. The waitresses seemed friendly indeed, but the service was rude.
