Koketsu Kai - Tiger's Den Martial Arts
Tiger's Den provides a superb training environment for beginning and experienced martial artist alike. The complementary Jukoshin Ryu and Combined Grappling Arts syllabi taught at Tiger's Den are rich in throws, joint locks, chokes, and strikes, applicable from both standing and on the ground. There's something in it for every situation, and for every body size and type. Training at Tiger's Den has a simple focus - practical self defence that works when you need it. Whether training defences against armed or unarmed attackers, Jukoshin Ryu teaches no-nonsense techniques to interrupt, disarm and neutralize an attacker. Should an attacker take you to the ground, Combined Grappling Arts provides a battery of effective ground techniques and intense grappling experience designed to end the fight decisively. Sensei Jamie Rickard, head instructor and 3rd Dan Black Belt, is a consummate expert and gifted teacher who helps to make learning easy, no matter your level of athletic talent or physical fitness. While training is serious business, the atmosphere at Tiger's Den is friendly and informal. Class sizes are typically 5-10 students, normally consisting of a couple of Black Belts, a couple of intermediate kyu belts (green through brown), and some novice kyu belts (white through orange). Training is always fun, and because class sizes are small there's always individualizeed attention available if you need it. I have been training at Tiger's Den for a little more than 4 years, and I love the experiences and the skills it has taught me. I look forward to our classes every week. If you're looking for a new experience - either as a novice in the martial arts, or as an experienced artist looking for a new twist - I enthusiastically invite you to come join us for 3 free classes, to see what we're all about.

I have been training at Tiger's Den for a little over 2 years, and I am still excited to come to class every time. The Jukoshin Ryu Jiu-Jitsu syllabus is brilliant. It's a straight to the point, no non-sense self defense that gives you a variety of techniques to deal with attackers in a variety of situations (headlocks, hair grabs, chokes, etc...), while also leaving room for techniques to be applied at different intensities depending on who is attacking you (be it a friend who is acting up, or someone out to seriously hurt you).On top of this extremely useful syllabus, Sensei Jamie Rickard has also devised a exception grappling based system, CGA (Combined Grappling Arts), which revolves around both self-defense and sport grappling. I am always really excited to learn new escapes, locks, and chokes, as it still amazes me the vastness of the techniques that can be applied. We actually grapple quite a bit to ensure we are able to apply these techniques in 'live' situations. This is one of my favorite parts, as it is extremely challenging both mentally and physically.Sensei Jamie Rickard is an incredible instructor. He is humble, extremely talented, and eager to share what he has learned and created in order to help you reach your full potential.I also really appreciate the learning environment in which we all work. Fellow students are mature, respectful, and extremely helpful in working together through the various syllabuses. We all have a lot of fun training together, and it really makes the whole experience more enjoyable.I have tried a variety of other places and styles of martial arts, and I can say without a doubt that these are the best styles and this is the best place I have ever trained at.If this sounds like a place you could see yourself training at, you should come by and take the free 3 classes, you won't be disappointed!

Koketsu Kai - Tiger's Den Martial Arts
I have trained at Tiger’s Den since 2013. It has a fun and supportive training atmosphere, with excellent instructors who are internationally recognized martial artists. We practice Jukoshin Ryu Jiu-Jitsu (empty hand and with weapons), sport grappling, and ground self defence. I have loved training here for the past eight years and would highly recommend this club to anyone interested in trying out martial arts, both for sport and for practical self defence.
