Claudel High School
A French language private collegiate with excellent teachers and a commitment to inspire excellence, and due diligence.

On the academic side, the school is about the best in town. Kids graduated with the bonus of being fully fluent in both official languages. In addition, credits can be brought to university, whilst also being exposure to both European and Canadian history.Children are taught how to study and are well equipped for university studies. On the topic of after school activities, the school still has a lot space to improve.

Filthy building (mold in cafeteria), entitled staff, and mostly incompetent faculty. Milk is chunky. However, still a higher school level than most public schools. Would NOT pay thousands for this “private education” when the level of education is around higher public school

Actually I would NOT recommend this school. Teachers are very rude, condescending and insult students constantly. If you are smart, get a real IB diploma from either a public or private school. They only offer the French Bac...not even close to a real IB.

This school made me depressed. Everything looks nice. Food is nice green areas are nice, extracurricular activities are nice. But then they have the most uncomfortable chairs and the worst teachers (with some exceptions like the math and the economics teachers who are really nice and a few others who are indifferent) I have seen in my life. Teachers are just rude, ignorant, and simply don’t care about teaching they only care about their paycheck, and often mocks students on their abilities but also on their looks. I don’t even know how these people still have a job...

The teachers are very nice and it has a playground almost bigger than the school itself. I have been a student there and I loved it.

I've graduated from the AFE French system about 20 years ago across multiple French schools in multiple different countries. My children are now attending this school to keep them within a system that offers flexibility to travel - once you start you're stuck with the availability of schools within the AFE network. This is probably one of the worst Lycée institutions I've come in contact with; they work their marketing really well and have a lot of higher end infrastructure in place that is unfortunately supported by people who seemingly have little to no experience on managing a multi-million dollar business, which is what this School is.The learning experience is typical of you might normally expect of the traditional French school system; Teachers are OK, depending on who your children end up with, but the quality of teaching leaves to be desired sometimes, especially compared to other Schools in the AFE network. Teachers do try to help for the most part. I have no major complaints on that front.COVID 19 exacerbated the problems with the Lycée Claudel, in that they are comfortable collecting roughly CA$1200-1300/mo in fees, but justify only offering less than 25% of the class time to children due to their high operating expenses and overhead. In essence, during the confinement period, which is still going as of June 2021 and to remain in place until the end of the 2020-2021 school year, both last year and this year, ALL parents of the Lycée Claudel have been subsidizing their operations while getting only a fraction of the time normally offered to children in class with their teachers. The School has consistently declined offering any guidance on fee adjustments or reimbursements.During this time, all the responsibilities with homework, studying, concentrating on classes, evaluations and any school-related activities have been delegated to the parents, which for us takes on average 3h-4h/ day. This is time that cannot be fully spent on professional duties. Not including the fact that our own children are harder to manage in a familiar context. Basically we're paying the Lycée for us to do the work with our kids ourselves, the tasks that we were paying them to do in the first place.Remote learning is mediocre at best, with about 1h15 of virtual class per day. The remote learning tools are poorly utilized or just not properly adapted to the needs of the children. Nothing much orther than offering zoom classes, and having kids upload SEESAW files... Tasks come in a word document once a week with the tasks that should be uploaded. The remote learning organization is deplorable at best. This is to be expected from a public school with limited funds and no international network backing, however, the Lycée Claudel being private, likely for-profit institution, this is what I would describe as bad service. To summarize, if you HAVE to be in the AFE network because of possible international expatriation travel, too bad, you're out of choices; you're going to get what the Lycée Claudel gives, with not much in terms of other options you - you can try your luck with the CNED remote learning, which seems like a much better option right now, given the lack of support, the limited class time, the amount of time parents have to work with children and the maintained fees (CNED is around CA$1200/year). If you don't have to be in the French system or are not looking for the prestige" of the Lycée

This school proven to be COVID resilient. Education quality stayed as high as before COVID. Furthermore, staff were really great and worked hard to make sure kids are getting what they deserve and yet maintain the fun part. Well done guys
