What a nice surprise!Popped in here on a whim and was totally blown away! It's hard to describe this museum in a few words, but it's part natural history museum, part anthropology museum, but mostly it's a body of work from one man's passion of travelling the world. All guests are provided with their own iPad that serves as a virtual guide as you explore the myriad of rooms and eclectic collections.Admission is by donation ($20 per person is recommended). There's also a sizeable amount of the collection that is actually for sale as well.Highly recommended if your in the area!

This was by far one of the most interesting museum I have ever been too and it wasn't hurting the wallet.I was pleasantly surprised and I will recommend for sure to family and people with children who want to see history, culture and large ray of diversity. I also liked that I could research what I was looking at with the iPad they provided.A must see on the island.

I am completely awestruck by this museum. I was expecting an interesting visit based on the other reviews but was not at all prepared for the vast amount of artifacts and collections. There has definitely been a lot of thought put into sharing this private collection. It’s a great day out with kids and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this and definitely recommend multiple visits to make sure you get it all in. There is an interactive iPad that you take a long with you to learn more about certain artifacts or displays. Entrance is by donation. Added comments: some people commented that this is a narcissistic collection with all the stuffed animals. If you walk through the displays and listen to the videos that go along with each display you will see that Jim talks about conservation and various other important topics.

WOW! An extraordinary collection unlike anything I've ever seen before. I always visit museums in various countries I visit but this is one of the best. Free admission but donations are accepted. Please donate the recommended amount - you will not be disappointed. Jim Shockey has done an incredible job of sharing is collection from travels around the world.

Oh my goodness, this place was such a treasure to discover! My husband and I went at the recommendation of both my father and brother. It did not disappoint! An amazing private collection, and so glad it is being shared. I'd recommend having 2 hours or so, to fully appreciate everything in the place. The iPad was a great touch, so you can lead a personalized tour based on your interests.

My wife and I planned a whole vacation weekend around me wanting to see the Hand Man Museum in Maple Bay. It did not disappoint. The logistics of traveling around the world, trading artifacts with native cultures and assembling them in one place for everyone to experience is mind boggling. Thank you Jim Shockey! I am a hunter, but that is not what makes this museum so special. I can only imagine how many kids that walk through this will dream of someday being biologist, educators, and conservationist by what they have seen in this museum. You will see a few negative reviews on this site, take them in with a grain of salt. Mankind is what it is by hunting, exploring, and trading with different cultures all over the world. We must keep that in mind where we really came from and hold onto that. Do yourself a favor and spend a couple hours in the museum and take in all that it has to offer. I definitely will be back!

This place is amazing! Spent close to 3hrs there and felt like we didn’t see everything. Probably one of the best private collections. Can’t wait to come back! Bonus, we ran into Jim in the hallway! Super great guy. Amanda at the front desk is a rock star!

Absolutely incredible collection, well worth a visit. It is jaw dropping every room you walk into; this is definitely one of the best museums just for sheer amount of things to look at. Would highly recommend a stop, worth much more than the suggested donation they ask for. Got to meet the legend himself, thanks for chatting with us Jim!
