Awesome experience and and amazing patient teacher!I've been using Derek for a year and a half with no plans of stopping!

My son has been a student at the Jensen School of Music for the last 3 1/2 years. The only thing that has kept him going for this long is Derek Jensen. My son has truly enjoyed each and every lesson mainly because of Derek's easy going nature and flexible structure. He tries various pieces of music with his students to figure out which genre works best with them. He is highly accommodating in scheduling makeup lessons whenever we have had to miss classes. The transition to online classes was seamless and my son had the same level of attention as he would have had otherwise. This was all because of Derek's willingness to adopt to new ways of teaching. An amazing teacher whom I would highly recommend.

Derek is an excellent teacher! He has been working with my son, Quinton, for a couple of years now. Quinton looks forward to his lessons and has improved significantly but, more important than that, Derek has been a great influence on Quinton's growth as a person. As a musician and a parent, I highly recommend Derek as a guitar teacher for beginners and more advanced players too!

if I could give more stars I would. Jensen School of Music is an amazing place to learn how to play guitar. I started taking guitar lessons from Derek Jensen because my brother did and I absolutely loved it! I took lessons from Derek for about 6 years. He is a great teacher and has become a great friend too! I’ve learned how to play many songs and have learned many different tips and tricks on my guitar. I would recommend Derek Jensen of Jensen School of Music to anyone who is looking to either learn how to play guitar, or simply want to improve their skills!

Derek is an excellent guitar teacher. My son had been taking lessons for a couple of years before coming to Derek. After a few months of lessons we realized what a difference it makes to have a really good teacher who is a professional musician! My son made such quick progress after that, and really enjoyed the lessons. Derek is personable, friendly, kind, and patient. He really knows his stuff. He was able to teach my son some bass guitar and mandolin as well!

Derek is a fantastic guy and a competent, skilled and patient teacher. It’s rare you meet someone with such enthusiasm that you call not just a teacher but a friend. I love our chats about 80s hair metal and bands we both love. I learned a few “lightbulbs” moments recently with Derek including scale progression across the fretboard. I struggled with the concept from books but having someone there to show me and catch the many intricacies of guitar is fantastic. Bonus points for Derek loving Nuno Bettencourt like I do! Daniel.

My son took bass guitar lessons with Derek for nearly three years. Derek is an incredible teacher. He structures his lessons around the child's interests which makes a huge difference. Derek really helped my child gain confidence playing an instrument that he was 'forced' to play because of band at school and helped turn it into an instrument that my child enjoyed playing. Can't recommend Derek and the Jensen School of Music enough.

Derek is the best guitar teacher ever! He has already inspired our 3 year old daughter to show more interest in music. He’s so kind and pours his heart into his work, his passion for music and teaching are beautiful to see.

I took guitar lessons at Jensen School of Music for several years, and I could not have asked for a better place to foster a passion for music as well as growth in my guitar playing. My instructor was incredibly personable, and made learning to play the guitar an absolute joy. Highly recommended!

Derek is a fantastic guitar teacher—friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging. My son has been a student of his for years and really enjoys his lessons. Derek customizes lesson plans according to what you would like out of them: from classical, to studying for examinations, or just learning tab and playing favourite rock/alternative songs. He’s transitioned to Zoom practices and they are just as effective as his in-person ones. Derek sends sheet music and mp3s via email for lessons and is also willing to adjust times and dates of lessons to accommodate changes in your schedule. He is a polite and respectful person and we are very happy with how our son’s progression. Highly recommend this guy!
