Came to Deerhurst for a work conference. Did not stay overnight or enjoy any other amenities. The grounds are beautiful and nicely landscaped. The room was excellent and met our needs. The food was fresh and delicious. My only critique is that, while we had an abundance of servers, many were standing around and we had to call them over and ask them to replenish when several food trays were empty, which caused delays for the over 100+ people in the food line. This could have been avoided if staff paid attention and replenished food items as needed in a more timely way. Otherwise it was great.

Sadly, our list of concerns is a laundry list of missed opportunities and apparent apathy to providing an exceptional guest experience.- We were delayed in getting access to our room by almost two hours when we arrived without a staff member even pretending to be apologetic- Our room smelled and the carpet was damp- The air conditioning in our unit didn't work-There was garbage littered across many areas of the resort. I picked up several things but the things I left stayed there my entire stay.- When we texted the front desk for assistance, we received no response- The outdoor amenities (zip line, kayaks, pools) were closed due to weather. We understand this when the weather was bad, but couldn't understand things staying closed after the storm had passed and it was sunny and beautiful for hours on both Sunday and Monday.- Most staff we encountered seemed confused and unable to answer simple questions such as can you direct me to a vending machine?" or "does the resort have a store?"hate to leave such a negative review. I'm the first person to leave good reviews complimenting great service because I know how challenging the hospitality industry can be. But the lack of customer service

This place needs a major renovation. We stayed in a 3 bedroom in the Greens. Building 34 room 202. Old old old is all I can say. Cabinet door in kitchen hanging by a hinge, inside of kitchen drawers worn out, they still have the old electric baseboard heating which is falling apart despite the fact that they do not use it, a/c barely cooled the place, carpet was falling apart and tape was used to hold it together. The doors all creaked and handles were broke. We have been coming to this place for over 20 years with our kids, my girlfriends and my sisters and I am disappointed to see how far it has fallen since we were there last. We are not paying Super 8 prices here. $655 a night for a very subpar room. The hot tub in the outdoor pool was filthy and foamy which is never a good thing. The service as always was great. The food was great. The amenities were great. The staff was friendly. Theresa in the restaurant was wonderful! The place just needs a major overhaul!

As most have noted, the resort is tired and a tad run down. Went during the week, the last week of June before school was out, so it was not busy at all, but somehow for our suite booking we were given a room on the 3rd floor with no elevator and no bell hop service. This would have been very helpful to know before we packed our suitcases! I assumed they were sending us all the way to the 3rd floor without an elevator due to a spectacular view. But no, we overlooked the parking lot and a muddy river below amid construction equipment. The 'resort view' did not offer a glance of the resort, just the backlot junk area. Perhaps given the place was empty, an upgrade to a 3rd floor balcony with an actual view might have been nice or in absence of a view, how about one of the empty rooms on the 1st or 2nd floor? Really wish someone at the front desk had the capacity to make better decisions regarding guest satisfaction when making room selections in a virtually empty resort. I was not bothered by the fact that there was no maid service or available housekeeping, but the room was dusty and there was no extra bedding for the pull out couch, it also needed vacuuming. There was not enough towels for the length of stay due to no housekeeping service to provide fresh towels when and if you needed them. Was also surprised the gift shop had such a limited selection of t shirts for purchase. Even though it was canada day weekend and their season opener, there were very few shirts in med or large and it seemed as if it was last years stock, despite it being their opening weekend of the summer, which seemed kind of odd to not be stocked up with merchandise for the summer at this point. Most of the restaurants were closed for the week or just opened for a few hours at a time. Tried to eat lunch at compass and after ordering we were then advised the fish was not available, probably should have let us know this BEFORE we ordered. Very disappointed in dining options, until we tried the maple bar for lunch the next day. It was excellent, but unfortunately it was only open until 5 pm!!!! It was very hard to plan when and where to eat while staying there, even though it wasn't busy. It kind of made you feel that the resort didn't want you there if they couldn't even be bothered to keep one restaurant open for more than a few hours at a time. Instead, we had to go to downtown huntsville to eat dinner. It is a shame the resort is not maintained better. As far as the beach, chairs that had bird sh*t, mud or sand on them, stayed like that for the duration of our stay. There was no staff cleaning the chairs, which made it difficult to find a clean lounger to sit on given all the seagulls. On the plus side, it is a beautiful area with lots of natural beauty in Huntsville and the surrounding area, including Deerhurst resort.

Our company booked us for a weekend at Deerhurst Resort. I highly recommend this place and will be coming back on my own.The suite at Lakeside Lodge was very roomy, clean and quiet. The buffet style food was good and plentiful. Activities (treetop trekking, kayaking and mountain biking) were planned well, I and many others found the staff to be knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant. Everyone did their best to make this vacation an enjoyable time.

My partner and I attended a banquet dinner to close the week-long View Dance Competition. While the dinner was good, the bar was an issue. Be aware - there is an 18% gratuity included in the cost yet the servers hand you the card machine on the tip option without telling you it is included. We ended up tipping almost 40% on a few drinks before we asked about the discrepancy between the cost listed on the menu and the cost on the card machine. As a restaurant manager myself, this is an immoral and pretty shady practice that would lead to reprimand at my establishment. While the server showed us the fine print on the menu about the auto-grat, they all gave guests the machine with the tip options displayed. I guarantee 95% of people tipped extra in ignorance. Not a fan of this technique to garnish extra tips, so be warned.

The Deerhurst is a very comfortable option close to Arrowhead Provincial Park. Why is this important? Well, if you have elder grandparents who can't sleep on the ground in the park, it gives them a comfortable spot to stay where they can enjoy the day at the park, roast some marshmallows and then sleep on a nice bed.As for the resort itself, it's got great options for things to do. Cross-country skiing, swimming and nice walks are all Accessible.Would recommend.

If ir was not for a wedding wouldn't have stayed there. Definitely Huntsville area is on pricier side compared to nearby cities, BUT:Hotel rooms are unnecessary expensive. You will be charged 100 buck per night as deposit right away! they promise to return that within 5-7 business days. Also you will be charged for first night when you book, which is again super odd, when all other hotels hold CC info to charge first night if you don't show or cancel late!Room amenities are below standard, super tiny fridge with flickering light, small tasteless coffee machine and no microwave. no room service, and elevators slacking with outdated furniture. This huge resort doesn't even have a proper canteen in case you want to buy water or snacks. only vending machine.Lake access and water sport are decent but nothing exceptional, you can find these free features outside resort as well.

Please go back to cash!We stayed for a Hockey tournament recently and had a great time! We stayed in the lakeside lodge and the accommodations were beautiful and the weather was perfect - but we were so disappointed that they did not accept cash anywhere in the resort. If you wanted a beer while you waited for the shuttle - charge it to the CC! Dinner, activities and so much more are already being charged with 29% interest. It would just be great to know you've paid and there is no extras. No hidden fees behind that weekend.I can't tell you how annoying it is when you've already spent over a thousand or more on the hotel for the weekend and they won't take your true money when you have it. One waitress at the eclipse restaurant even encouraged us to tell the front desk because the only way around it was to take the cash and pay for it herself, but she wasn't offering to do that. We asked the front desk and they were just happy to charge my credit card on file!In this digital, convenient era I get it. But I just want to pay for my meal and be done with!
