The Fireplace Guy

In April 2021 when I had a property inspection performed on a property I was considering buying, the inspector discovered that the gas fireplace didn't work. As a condition of sale, we asked the owner to have it professionally repaired which she did and sent me a copy of the receipt for $250.00 which she had paid. I took possession of the property during this very hot, record breaking summer so of course didn't use the fireplace. Three days ago, when it was a cool evening, I put the fireplace on and it worked for 15 minutes and then completely shut down. I referred to the receipt provided to me and called the Fireplace Guy. He came out the next day, identified the problem as a faulty thermocouple. He came back the next day and replaced the thermocouple and presented me with another $250 bill. When I mentioned that I felt that this was a recall since the fireplace had not been used at all since April, he informed me that the thermocouple can go at any time and that the warranty on his labour had expired. I explained that I found it curious that the first time after he fixed it, it didn't work. Too bad for me. He seems very knowledgeable about fireplaces but in my opinion this was very poor customer service and he seriously overcharges. $200 per call!!!Also, if you believe that Covid is a real problem and you want to protect yourself, be sure and ask him about his thoughts on vaccines. Just a heads up. I feel that this should have been addressed when I made the appointment. He made no effort either to mask. Not a happy customer.

Long story short, after 3 visits and almost $1000 dollars, the problem was not solved and atco had to be called for a gas leak after the work was “finished.” Ended up getting a new company in to tell us that it was a very easy fix and anybody equipped with the proper gas sniffing tool would’ve known that. Cost us $75 for a service call to have it done properly by someone else. Do not recommend.

The two Gentlemen arrived on time took apart the Fireplace cleaned, repaired, and replaced the switch all in a timely matter.Haven’t had a problem since and will definitely recommend this company to any and all who need their Fireplace cleaned or fixed.
