After driving from Aylmer to an oncology appointment to discuss aberrant blood work results, then waiting an hour in a crowded waiting room, we were told the doctor is delayed. Go home and he will call you". No explanation beyond that

Just had our first child delivered at the Gatineau hospital. Was a long induction that spanned several nurses and doctors- all of whom were excellent.Very grateful to everyone involved!

I went to the hospital for a major surgery then was brought to the 7th floor. (dirty) I was supposed to be there for 3 days but had to stay 10 due to complications. A few hours after being in my room, I was in a great deal of pain. I pushed the button to see a nurse. (My room was right beside the nurses station) Pushed again, no one came. Again, no one came. I could hear the sound that pushing made. Every time I pushed after that there were no sound. I was in tears due to pain. The man that was in the room with with me tried but still, no one came. When someone did come, she said that they were doing the shift change and that someone would come in after. I could hear all the nurses talking and laughing. I had to wait 55min to get meds.I had to have blood drawn twice day. The mornings were ok because the nurse knew what she was doing. The evening nurses were all students. Every students I saw said that I had small veins and each tried to find a vein at least 3 times. (They said the same thing to the woman beside me) One time, I had 3 different nurses try. Both my forearms hurt and not a word of a lie, they were green and blue. The worst is that they were all supervised and yet, the supervising nurses would just stand there instead of looking at what was going wrong. By then of couse I was labeled as a bad patient. It took at least 2 weeks + after I left the hospital for my forearms to get back to their real skin colour. Maybe a week after I was released, I realized what their mistake was. The « rubber bands » weren’t never tightened enough. Hence the small veins.I had a tube going in my stomach. I kept getting nauseous because the tube wasn’t working right. Every time someone came, they said that the tube was ok. It was like that for a while. Finally, after a few days, one nurse took the time to really see what the problem was. Turns out that by then, the tube was almost completely blocked. I had no issues after she replaced it.I do place nurses in high estime since we all know that they are overwhelmed. Most of them were really nice but nothing like that should have happened.

I gave it four stars because I decided to focus on the doctors and nurses who validate humanity. Nurses Camille, Maude, Sonia and Rohsana together with Doctors Grenger and Faullen are angels on earth and stars amongst us. They deserve master class awards for their empathy, professionalism, compassion and all round awesome dispositions.

Part 1/2Neglect, criminal behaviour, and pettiness were rampant. This is absolutely the worst hospital ever. My teen son was confined to a room in ICU and not permitted to shower or go to the bathroom for 5 days as nurses pretended they had to check, double check and triple check if he had a hospital acquired virus; it should have been a simple matter of trusting the medical results. Nurses threw empty cardboard bottles into the room for my son to pee in, and then failed to collect the bottles until I complained for hours to various nurses, staff, and admin. The bottles kept leaking urine onto the floor because the nurses had not prepped them, and no cardboard container is meant to hold urine for 3 days. In a five day period, the collections of urine were picked up only three times. The room smelled worse than a cesspool. The place is filled with petty, small-minded nurses and hospital workers that don’t speak English well, don’t listen, and don’t care. Doctors came in without introducing themselves, nurses kept forgetting to feed my son meals so I was left to find food for him. Medical waste was littering the room from blood draws, IVs and bodily waste. Floor nurses took > 1 1/2 hour lunch breaks leaving a huge gap in the day where no nurse was available to assist patients or their caregivers.A psychiatrist, Dr ElAlami, came in the room without introducing herself and spoke to my son privately. She then invited me back in and asked my son if he wanted a nice long stay in a mental institution. When my son said he wouldn’t like that, she gleefully said she was a psychiatrist (we had both thought she was a nurse) and planned to go in front of a judge and have him committed because he said no. I pointed out that this was not ethical, she was bound to communicate transparently and without coercion, and she had not made any assessments. Her response was priceless: my son failed to smile at her.

I have been to this hospital a few times. The emergency nurses and Doctors are very professional and kind, even with their overwhelming and busy department. However, my mother was hospitalized for a few months on the 7th floor. I am convinced that the auxiliary daytime nurse was overmedicating my mother with sleeping pills and I would ask on the status of my mother and she would brush me off and tell me that she is very sleepy, this particular nurse was easily offended with any questions. I respect the nursing staff, the long hours the dedication but this nurse was a character. Also, my father had dealings with a lady at the billing department and she did not demonstrate empathy, no caring and professionalism. This billing clerk hates her job and clearly cannot deal with senior, she needs to get fired. In other words if you are going to the emergency chances are you are in good hands but for a hospital stay people be on the lookout.

The entire Quebec health care system is a sham! This is crazy. Even making an appointment can take over a week and employs 3 to 5 govt employees to make an appointment! I'll be dead before anyone takes this seriously. Worst I've ever seen. Not to mention how rude they are to an English speaking CHILD ! They should be ashamed.

The workers in the Mammogram department were excellent with my senior mother. They spoke English to her and helped her with all her needs. Thank you for such excellent service today.

Like all hospitals in Quebec, Gatineau Hospital is no different. It’s overrun continuously, but these find folks are true professionals and they make and do with what they have and they try to make the best of it. I never criticizes hospital because one of the nurses here that work here, save my life, I had a heart attack a month prior to walking in here. I didn’t know what was wrong with me and she caught it. I’ll never be able to thank her enough.
