Yama Cafe
My favorite cafe in the area. Food is always fresh and prepared in a delicious yet healthy way. The simple flavours really remind me a lot of Japanese cafe's and some Japanese home cooking I'm used to. The morning breakfast set is always my go-to, but the bowls are also great! Both the tuna tataki and the vegan bowl satisfy my hunger, but I never feel over-full, which is a refreshing feeling to have after a scrumptious meal. The desserts and pastries are awesome. The mochi muffins are my fave, but the salt&sesame cookie is my runner up. The strawberry shortcake is light and fluffy and the cream is not too heavy. Seasonal treats are very authentic tasting, such as the Sakura mochi. As for the atmosphere, it's family run, so they have their young child there. Occasionally he's noisy, or running around, for me it's cute, and I don't mind. But for those looking for a fancy (not casual) experience you may not enjoy it. It's very homey and casual inside, it feels like you're at someone's home and enjoying their great cooking. Everyone is friendly, and service is lovely!

The morning breakfast set at Yama Cafe has been on my food hit list for ages. TLDR; It was amazing. Yama Cafe specialises in Japanese home-style/comfort food. The morning set comes with a grilled fish, rice/salad, vegetables, pickles, poached egg, fruit, and miso soup. I selected the mackerel at the advice of the server. The food met and surpassed my high expectations. The mackerel was crisp and seasoned to perfection. Miso soup was full of umami. I devoured everything on the set.In addition to the set, I ordered myself a latte and a salted bean daifuku. 10/10.Everything I had was excellent and obviously prepared with care.

Going to Yama has consistently been some of the coziest experiences I've ever had at a cafe. Every time I go it feels like I'm being welcomed into someone's home, everyone is so friendly and accommodating that my visits there never fail to put me at ease after a hard day at work. Their food and drinks are top notch too; they make the best royal milk tea I've ever had and the Pork Belly Bowl always fills me up perfectly! It's always worth the wait because you can tell they put their heart into every dish. Couldn't recommend it more!

Yama Cafe
Delicious everything. Good presentation for the food and cafe has a nice vibe. The Benedict was soft and flavorful, same with the tuna tataki

The food here is very light and I absolutely love the Japanese breakfast, you can tell that the chief puts a lot of effort into preparing the dishes even though it’s not super elaborate. This is the perfect spot for some light comfort food.

Yama Cafe
I’ve been to Yama Cafe many times for their Japanese breakfast and it has always been affordable and delicious, their coffee and drinks are always so tasty and cute. Every item of food and cutlery and decoration in the cafe is clearly chosen and made with care. Everything is so delicious and so cute! The cafe is run by a family and often their young boy is there drawing pictures and helping out his parents with little chores which is just so sweet. My boyfriend and I recently had their custom made omakase dinner set where you fill out a survey on your favourite and least favourites foods/flavours and they create a custom menu with seasonal ingredients. Everything was so incredibly delicious and carefully thought out, and there was so much food we were very full at the end of the meal! The price was quite reasonable as well considering they create a custom meal for you and it’s a private dining experience (they close their restaurant for you and your party).Yama cafe is by far my favourite Japanese restaurant that I’ve ever been to in Canada. I am Japanese myself and often am disappointed when having Japanese food in Canada as it never matches up to the quality and flavours you get in Japan. every meal I’ve ever had at Yama cafe however brings me straight back to Japan and the dishes and flavours feel so authentic and are so delicious. Everyone should check this place out!

Ordered the matcha latte and the rice sashimi course. Was not disappointed. Drinks were amazing and the food was rich in flavour. When I went there there were a lot of kids so maybe there’s a daycare?
