Love this Park

Just visit it today, April 25th, 2021 and the lake was mostly frozen. The walkway over the lake was open. We were excited to go over for a walk.

From beaches to buffaloes, Elk Island Park is an amazing place place to spend a day or to pitch a tent and stay as long as you want. Miles and miles of walking trails around lakes and bogs and wooded areas and huge buffaloes. The air is clean and fresh. You can rent a canoe or kayak (or bring your own) and spend hours exploring Astotin Lake with its shoreline marshes and its multiple islands.Stay until after sunset and experience one of Alberta's most accessible light free areas and watch the universe float above your head or count meteors zipping by. Absolutely amazing.This is a national park and there is an entry fee - but it is well worth it. Residents of Edmonton, this place is only a few minutes east along the Yellowhead Highway. Definitely you should visit Elk Island Park.
