Most amazing staff, who are always available to help you in everyway. This place is more than just a shelter, its like home, rooms are spotless, 3 cooked meals and safe. Extremely wonderful people who genuinely care about the homeless and dedicated to help find housing for those in need. This place saved my life and i will be eternally grateful...

Not an organization I would ever trust again. Their funding should be re assessed! They don’t have a high enough local population of indigenous people to be able to even offer services. They hold pow wows where it’s only the staff dancing because they don’t offer regalia classes. I found out the hard way they don’t offer any real support there’s no community programs that lift people out of the oppression that is stigmatized. Im convinced there is nothing but catering to employees that work there. A majority of the workers are not even indigenousThey also encourage their employees to separate themselves from the population of the city by gagging them with legal action to stop them from helping out the community members. Amelia reimer lost her job at the friendship center for writing support letters for my court dates and legal issues! What a horrible corrupt system they put on a fake face to you in person.

Unfortunately had to click on a star to get a review started. visiting from out of town and let me tell you I was far from impressed being a NATIVE FRIENDSHIP CENTRE" ( and being metis from out west they looked at us like we had 3 heads both times we went) Lack of information to the public and silly excuses about funding issues and NO PUBLIC COMPUTERS to use was very disturbing. Can't say I'd ever go back there

I was an indigenous woman utilizing the services here in 2005-2018 during that time the friendship center transitioned from being “native” to being run by white women from the university and my friend Amelia Reimer told me she was given instructions not to help me; then was taken to court and forced to sign a gag order. She was then fired after she was helping me to access services and advocating for my family.I find it funny that this community center is run almost exclusively by yt people and they changed their name from native friendship center to “first light”.I wouldn’t go to them for support of any kind they will just write files on you and try to tear you down this “friendship center” isn’t really a friendship center at all.And that’s my experience from this place. Yt women pretending to be indigenous… or like they care about indigenous issues at all… “pretendians”
