When I had my child, I was naïve to think that these women knew what they were doing. Not knowing any better, I trusted them. At the time of my pregnancy, I was assigned a midwife who didn’t have children herself and who was too young to have actual practice, but being unexperienced myself, I continued with them.The midwife who had my file never followed me the way an obstetrician will follow a pregnant woman and the baby. She did very basic checks, such as measuring my belly and taking my pulse. She never looked into deeper thing, nor was she concerned.Once the birth came, I went to the hospital as instructed by them, but once I was there, all they were good for was to register me and to make sure my wishes for my baby and I were met by the hospital staff.When the actual time came to birth my baby, both the midwife assigned to me and the student whom they asked me to allow in, decided that they would go home for a break because they were too tired from assisting other women give birth that day. So I was left alone and had to call family to come be with me. By the time the midwife got back a doctor was delivering my baby.In a way I think it was good that they left when they did because the doctor on call that night was experienced and saw that the baby had the umbilical cord wrapped around the neck so the proper actions were taken in a prompt manner.About three different midwifes came to see me afterwards, I still don’t know what the point of that was other than making sure they would get paid for seeing me. They were useless, dangerously inexperienced and plainly disappointing. The midwife who was in charge of my file is no longer with this group, but I thought that putting a review would help other women make better choices. This midwifery clinic does not guarantee that your birth will be a more beautiful experience.

My husband and I couldn’t say enough positive things about our experience at East Ottawa Midwives. Our midwife, Martha is such an amazing midwife and human. She took the time to answer my million questions from the first appointment to the our discharge appointment. She is knowledgeable, kind and positive. She respected everything I had written down on my birth plan.My experience at the hospital was also beautiful. Martha stayed the whole time with us and after to make sure everything was well.The post care appointments were the best part of my day! She would come over and make sure mama and the baby were healthy and fine!Thank you to whole team, including all the midwives and Tanya the receptionist for their amazing work! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a midwife.

Grace has helped bring both my babies into the world and she's just the best. All our appointments were so positive and laid back. I never felt rushed, all my questions were validated and answered. When ever I had to bring my toddler to appointments with me, she was welcomed and included. I always left the office feeling good and empowered. I had a hospital birth with my first and a home birth for my second, both went very smoothly and Grace and Melanie brought a calming and confident feeling to the room. I will definitely be going back if/when we have a third.

I was referred to this center by a few friends. My husband was apprehensive about using a midwife, but the midwives were so reassuring and able to give an honest explanation of all the different services available.I absolutely adored working with Grace and the team at East Ottawa Midwives. I felt supported throughout my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum visits. The first week of home visits are priceless. As a first time parent, it was reassuring to have such thorough attention following the birth of our daughter.Grace helped encourage me and give me the strength and confidence to follow through with my birth plan. An exceptional experience!

Will not ever be going back here. Full on fear mongering...negativity..and made to feel horrible the entire experience. Body shamed and only told 1% worst case senerios. Horrific service. Also made many mistakes ( postpartum) and made me feel like a bad mother. How some of them are still able to work there baffles me. Find someplace else for your pregnancy needs. The midwives I had were the worst. Stressed me out the entire time and throughout the birthing process. Avoid this place. I hope no one else has to experience what I did.

Choosing East Ottawa Midwives was the best decision I’ve made. Being a first time mom during COVID I got above and beyond care here.Grace and Marie-Eve made my whole journey truly unforgettable. From pregnancy to labour & delivery to postpartum care, I could not have done it without them. I highly recommend them and if you are able to give birth at the Ottawa birthing centre I highly recommend that as well!I felt completely safe and comfortable there knowing I was under the care of east Ottawa midwives.Thank you Grace & Marie-Eve !!

It has taken me a while to write this review because I needed some time to process the ordeal I went through. I was basically traumatized by one of the midwives with worst case scenarios (knowing full well I spent 5 years and went through IVF to have this baby). I have never in my entire life, faced the amount of body shaming in a medical space as I did here... And that is saying something. It was assumed due to my weight I would have GD (I did not) and I was against testing (which I'm not). For a space that should be safe I felt the complete opposite, I left my appointment in literal tears. If you want compassionate care I would advise going anywhere else. I could sense that I wasn't wanted as a patient and my birthing hopes weren't going to be supported. Surprisingly enough I had more holistic care from an OB they referred me to.

I cannot say enough amazing things about our experience delivering two healthy babies in the span of two years with East Ottawa Midwives. The first time we delivered at the hospital (with Grace and Melanie Page) and the second (with Grace) at the Birthing Centre. Grace is the best human I have ever met in my life! Not only is she a knowledgable healthcare professional, she is a compassionate person who had our best interests at heart throughout our entire experience. From the moment we met her, we were floored at the level and quality of care provided to us. My husband was out of the country for most of our appointments with our first, but Grace was so supportive of facetiming him in for all our sessions with her so that he could experience each milestone of our pregnancy despite our circumstances. She took her time to patiently answer all of our questions, made us feel so empowered to deliver naturally (even though I have a low pain tolerance, she was encouraging, helped us through and we successfully gave birth vaginally and naturally!). Both our pregnancy, birthing and postpartum experiences were positive and quite incredible, all thanks to Grace’s care, patience, support and assurances. She felt like a close friend more than anything. We were so sad leading up to my last appointment with her, we just didn’t want to part ways. I will scream her name at the top of my lungs if anyone asks me for a midwife recommendation!Melanie Page was part of our healthcare team as a student midwife with our first pregnancy and we had such a wonderful experience with her as well! She always made us feel so comfortable and was extremely knowledgable about all our options throughout her care. She is now a fully practicing midwife with East Ottawa Midwives and I would recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat!

After having some time since the birth of my son to process and reflect on my experience with EOM, I have a mixed opinion. Certain parts of the care I received were better than others. I should also mention that COVID definitely affected the overall experience.Prenatal: The care received during prenatal visits was good, the midwife took the time to explain things and the appointments never felt rushed. Routine ultrasounds and tests were arranged and she was available to answer questions and also provided resources for further information. In retrospect, there are topics that I wish we had spent more time discussing, such as what to expect during labour and the postpartum period.Labour: This was the most disappointing part of my care. Despite the numerous other reviews raving about the support, encouragement, and reassurance received from midwives during labour, I unfortunately cannot say that I got any of that from my midwife. I was labouring at home for roughly 12 hours with just a brief at-home assessment about halfway through. The lack of support combined with exhaustion eventually caused morale to take a nosedive. By the time the midwife arrived the second time, I already felt defeated and I abandoned my original plan to go to the Birth Center in favour of going to the hospital. This was the right decision given my circumstances at that time, but it was still disappointing. While I understand that a midwife is primarily responsible for clinical duties, based on previous reviews it seems that a certain level of support is still usually provided. I suppose the support you receive depends very much on the particular midwife you have. I wish I could reflect back on my labour and birth as a positive experience as others do, but this is not the case.Postpartum: The postpartum care I found to be excellent, the midwife came to our house several times in the week following my son’s birth. He was born during a stay at home order and we had no one else coming to the house so her help was very much appreciated. She was always available to answer questions and offer advice.I would say that the care I received was good overall, but I am not 100% sure that I would seek the care of a midwife again. If I had to do it all over again knowing what I know now, I would advocate for myself better, ask more questions, and likely hire a doula.

I had an amazing experience with East Ottawa Midwives. From the first meeting, I really felt like all the midwives I spoke with really understood my wishes for my pregnancy and birth.As a first time mother, my midwives were amazing with explaining everything and guiding me throughout my pregnancy. Whenever I had concerns or questions someone was there to answer.I gave birth at the Montfort Hospital and it was a super easy process to get checked in and settled. I was able to leave 3 hours after giving birth which was amazing because I got to spend the first day with my daughter in the comfort of my own home.After I had the baby, I really felt like my midwife was there for me and she helped me get through the first few days with my daughter! I could always call to ask any questions I had.I would honestly recommend everyone to go here for their pregnancy and birth. The support and care they provide is exceptional. It was the most amazing experience and I will definitely be back when I have another baby.
