If my family or myself need bloodwork done, this is only place we go. The staff there is very good at their job, they are patient with people who have difficult veins to work with and nice to chat to while they do their job. My daughter had a severe fear of needles and it was a very nice nurse in there who helped her overcome that fear. I am unable to find anything negative to say about them. I like the the place and their staff. I cannot comment on the in patient situation as I have never had to be admitted there myself.

The online pictures of the Waterford Hospital are not realistic. It looks so pretty outside on these pictures. But you have to be in there as a patient to see that the hospital leaves much to be desired. I have been there on and off for almost 20 years as a visitor. It has always seemed to me to be more of a prison environment than that of a hospital. It offers little for patient care and the environment will make a person sick if he is not sick already. Wasn't this hospital built in 1855?Sick people -especially those that are mentally ill- need to be treated with patience, gentleness, and loving care because of the terrible things that go through their minds. The patients sometimes don't know what is happening mentally within and without. All nursing staff should be caring and patient, and most of them are and should be commended, but some may have seen too much and their patience has worn thin.Any one of us could wind up in the Waterford. We should be doing more for these people that are in so much pain. They should not be in a place like that! I will never pretend to know what our governments do with our tax dollars, but I can assure you that they are not spent on the Waterford hospital or the care that mentally ill patients receive.I also believe that the doctors who treat the patients should have more input when it comes to governmental or hospital policies and procedures, for they see it all and understand the pain that these lonely people go through. For now I pray that God will help our children for our governments will not!

My daughter has been in and out of the mental health system for the past 10 years and has attempted taking her life 4 times. In those years she was never diagnosed but was put on an antidepressant and a sleeping pill to stop nightmares from an attack that happened rather than help her work through it. My daughter told the psychiatrist the antidepressant wasn’t working but the psychiatrist wouldn’t change it and sent her home after 3 months in hospital still on the wrong meds which had her getting worse by the day. She recently attempted suicide again and this time got a diagnoses of BPD, Anorexia/bulimia and substance abuse issues along with depression, anxiety and signs of PTSD while at the health sciences. During her stay there she was able to see her old physiologist at the Waterford who instead of treating her for the disorder’s a Dr. outside of the Waterford gave he decided to tell my daughter that he don’t think that is what’s wrong with her which has put her in another downward spiral and has her thinking that it’s just her being stupid rather than the BPD and has us fearing what she will do next. She finally had a reason for what’s been happening to her all these years and was starting to crawl out of the hole she’s been in since last winter only to fall back in because of him. The Dr. wanted more testing done but instead of the psychiatrist on staff at the health sciences doing anything he told her to speak to the physiologist at the Waterford instead of checking her for himself has did the psychiatrist at the Waterford when my daughter asked to be tested for other issues that are genetic in the family. If a psychiatrist can’t be bother to treat you and a physiologist can’t follow a patient’s chart and treat them for what they have been diagnosed with they shouldn’t be allowed to work in the mental health system. We will be putting in a formal complaint against these people and are currently trying to find new Drs for her which isn’t an easy thing to get unless admit yourself in to the hospital or hurt yourself to the point where someone has to listen. This place deserves no stars but you can't put up a review unless you rate them with a star

Very disturbing to see such a dirty place and have to leave your loved one. Very disorganized, with way too many ppl in one area. Doctors, students, staff and patients all gathered at the nursing station!

My experience here was absolutely traumatizing. After being told to visit if needed after attending a doorways session I decided to be proactive in getting mental help. I proceeded to go to the main entrance. I couldn't see anyone there so I aimlessly walked the halls and got to the third floor before finding someone to ask for directions for some information. The nurse I encountered was very nice and told me I needed to take a different entrance. That was fine so I went to the other entrance and immediately felt trapped the doors locked behind me and there were security guards at the door. I asked the receptionist if I could get some basic information. She immediately said she needed to take my purse and that I needed to register. I said no that's fine as i was weirded out by the whole situation and i was forced to register and see a nurse. Once I went in to the triage section another set of doors locked behind me. She checked my temperature and blood pressure. I then asked can I leave?" I had to ask this question THREE times before I finally was discharged. This experience has negatively impacted my mental health journey and I am so traumatized by the whole situation. Please do better Newfoundland in providing mental health services. :("

i've gone here multiple times and it is the worst. the hospital has no regard for the patients. Once i had to get bloodwork done (and because i'm deathly afraid of needles) i didn't want to do it, so the doctor threatened me that if i didn't she'd call security and hold me down. TO GET BLOODWORK. 0/10 i've never been more unhappy."

This hospital is filthy, one of the nurses droped pills on the flooor and continued to try to give them to my nanny, the nurses also take ages to get to patients rooms and they don’t care. The only good people who work there are the ot and the pt they are actually doing there job correctly and right. Nurses take such a long time getting to patients rooms but as soon as they get to the patients they rush and are so fast they sometimes hurt there patients, and act all grumpy because they were called down to there room. The doctors not any better they lie and don’t take time to be with patients and help them. If anybody does ever haft to be in this hospital I hope you the best...

Horrible experience, the environment was horrible for anyone having psychosis. Hammering would confuse patients more. Male patients would go into rooms of female patients while they slept despite security sitting outside the ladies ward. Staff where horrible did not treat patients well, a nurse threw a lady who was elderly in seclusion for 16 hours with no bathroom she stated she pee in 3 of the 4 corners of the room. Patients felt like animals in a cage, staff did not assist patient with meals as in delivering food to rooms. I received a pressure ulcer to my right arm and I am a young adult from over perscribed medications. Medical condition was never treated, was transfered to another hospital for sepsis. One good thing came out of it and now I am an intense advocacy for human rights and studying Medicine and Law to hopefully change things in mental health no matter how much debt I go into.Still reflecting on my experience I have no idea how I ended up on a forensic unit and never committed a crime. I looked up the floor I was on and I was wondering why victims of crime ended up on units for criminals?
