Castle Hill National Historic Site

Quick stop to see ruins of an old fort. Nicely laid out. Interesting museum with some hands on exhibits. Kids had fun.

A neat historic site with beautiful view overlooking Placentia.Noticed visitors entering the site without paying. Without paying the entry fee of almost $4, you can view historic remnants without the background story and information.When you pay the entry fee, you can borrow a headset that will guide you through what the remnants mean. Be sure to ask for a headset if you pay the fee, as the worker did not offer us headsets after paying and we didn't understand anything we were looking at until we realized there were pictures of headsets on the plaques.The site and audio tour was a little short.There's a beautiful gift shop on site and they offer scavenger hunts, picnics and more.

Christopher was amazingly helpful with suggestions of where to eat after he helped us with the MP3 player and explained the trails and some of the history of the site. He even showed us on the map where they had added a trail that wasn't on the map yet. He corrected an old family error, the cod jigging hook in the photos is identical to one that our family had identified as a squid jigging hook. The descriptions on the MP3 were clear and fairly easy to use. Spectacular scenery as we came to expect everywhere in Newfoundland!

This is an interesting place to visit. Christopher was very helpful and knowledgeable about the site and the area. Castle Hill has an interesting history and trails. Beautiful views too. The MP3 and earbuds were fabulous and enabled is to do a self guided tour with professional commentary. The binoculars were a nice touch! Nice gift shop too.

Was a great place to stop and take in the view offered from the top. The people who work in the museum info center were knowledgeable and very friendly.

One of the serene place to visit near to St. John's. Only 2 hours drive and you will find yourself in peace

Very interesting historic site. You have to see it to fully appreciate it. Staff were wonderful.

Great place to learn the history of the area. You find out why the fort was built the way it was and the history of the English and French soldier's who lived there. You get headphones to take with you when you go on the walking tour that explains everything you're looking at. As a bonus you get great views of the ocean and the town below you.

This was spectacular historical site which told the story of the English and French armies fighting to control Newfoundland’s fishery on the 1600 & 1700 centuries. The French built this Fort to defend their fishing village in the harbour beneath. Today’s harbour name is Placentia. This is a very interesting Fort location. There are pieces of the Fort walls and cannons to look at. And there are hiking trails around the Fort. And inside the visitor center there is a gift shops. This was time we’ll spent visiting this site. We are pleased that we stopped and learned something!!!

Staff was happy to share history of the fort and area. Great view. Take the audio tour. Very cheap price. Walking trails.
