Scholars of Thunder Bay

A huge confidence boost for our son. He went from low 50's before christmas to finishing with a 78% in his math. The quiet, unassuming setting of the centre really helped him stay focused. He worked with several teachers and never felt uncomfortable or afraid to ask for the help he needed. I was shocked when I asked him how it was going and he said he actually enjoyed it. Not exactly the answer I would have expected from our why do I have to go to school every day" son about attending even more classes. As far as cost goes

We enrolled our daughter in Scholars for math tutoring when she began high school. We could not be happier! For the first time in her life she actually enjoys math!! Her marks are incredible, but even more amazing is the confidence she has gained. No homework frustration. No test stress. She loves working with the tutors at Scholars and looks forward to attending every session. We are so grateful to all the staff, and SO thankful we enrolled her in the program. To any parent who might be on the fence about trying out this service, it has been a game-changer for our daughter and has reignited her love of learning. The results were far beyond what we hoped for, +++5 STARS!!!, our family is sincerely grateful for all you do.*****UPDATE: After completing one full GAP math program, and finishing her grade 9 math semester, our daughter achieved an overall 90% in math and was exempt from her final math exam because her class marks were so high. This was the best money we ever spent and the results speak for themselves. So proud of her, so grateful to Scholars.

I love working at Scholars and the opportunities it provides. I get to help children develop the skills and confidence needed to improve at school. As well, the staff and the students are really kind which makes it a fun and welcoming environment.

I am forever thankful for scholars! My son was behind with his reading, and struggled immensely, in school.He attended scholars for half the year ( prior to Covid) and in a few months was able to read with confidence! He has just finished grade 3, and is ahead with reading/ comprehension!The staff was amazing, a couple years later-We still rave about our experience!Signing up our son for scholars was one of the best devious we have ever made!

We have been going to scholars for 3 years now and it's helped my daughter feel confident and proud of herself and with her studies. Recently we have had some learning challenges with my daughter and Amanda has jumped right in to help us along with the process. She communicates with me after every session on how my daughter did and what we are going to do moving forward. Scholars has been a blessing to my little family and I'm so glad we found it. I have been with Scholars for almost 7 years now and I could not imagine working anywhere else and still loving it more each and every day! The family atmosphere that we have here makes for a wonderful team of teachers to come together to help our students reach their goals.My favourite thing about Scholars is seeing our students and their families grow both personally and academically throughout the years. Being able to watch a student realize their own success and feel more confident in themselves is probably the best reward possible.

I have been a teacher at Scholars for almost a year now, and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon! It really is an awesome place to work, and I have really loved getting to know students more personally and working with them in very small groups. It sounds clichéd, but I have seen so many students gain confidence after realizing what they can do and seeing their achievements. For example, I was working with one student on grade 11 math. She was really struggling before she started coming to Scholars about once a week, but once she was able to get more individualized help, she started to understand her teacher's lessons more and her marks improved. Exam time rolled around, and she was NERVOUS and came in a few times that week to review and study with me. She came back in the next week to say that she had aced her exam, and I am not ashamed to say I shed a few happy tears for her. She was so excited and so proud of herself, and it's all because she got just a little bit more help from us at Scholars!

I have been so pleased with Scholars. After each assessment, my daughter's program has been adjusted to grow with her. She loves (OK, doesn't mind) going and her report card marks reflect all of the effort she and her Scholars teachers have put in. Lorna and Todd Plant

First of all, Scholars have fantastic staff as well as most teachers!The truth is that scoring does not reflect the real performance of your child.The kids are being helped by teachers to achieve 100%.Scholars is a test based learning approach and you pay as much as a private tutor with a much better performance in return.I would ask for a partial refund if I could.I signed-up for IXL online and it's great. It's one of the best learning and practicing tools online. You could use it even in addition to Scholars if you wish. I am not trying to sell anything here.I don't usually live many reviews online.This is my honest opinion to help other parents understand how Scholars works.There are better ways to improve your child's academic performance!

I have worked at Scholars for over 5 years now. It is a great place to work, especially for teachers that want to gain more experience in the education field. I've watched so many students realize their potential and gain the confidence needed to succeed! It's a great feeling, and I couldn't be more proud of the difference that I've made in the lives of our students over the years!
