A sleigh ride is a perfect activity for Family Day weekend. Thanks to the folks at Merrylynd Organics for the sleigh ride, warming fire and hot chocolate. And let’s not forget Sadie and Ebbie who did the hard work of pulling the sleigh. It was touch and go as to whether or not it would happen due to a lack of snow but a dusting of snow and cooler temperatures made it possible. Thanks again. Grandkids had a blast. Fun for the rest of us too!

Glad I discovered Merrylynd Farm!!If you want the short review, here it goes:Awesome service from great people, flour made great bread, will be a return customer. Keep up the good work!!!If you've got more time here's the long version:I placed an order for 10 kg of fresh milled flour yesterday morning, and was able to pick it up in the afternoon of the same day. I shouldn't admit this out of fear they raise their prices, but it was half the price of any other fresh milled flour I could find within in a 4 hour radius. The only negative thing I can say is that I had to wait 10 min for it to be milled once I arrived, but I should not complain because I asked for fresh milled flour, and It can't really get any fresher than that.Fortunately, that ten minutes gave me the opportunity to let my 5,7 and 9 year children have a look around at all the farm machinery and grain filled totes. Once Peter (I think he may be the owner) came out with the flour he was extremely friendly and entertaining to us. He spent another 10 to 15 minutes talking to them like little people, not kids and answering all of their grain related questions, as well as all the other random questions you could expect from a group of youngsters. I personally found this extremely admirable, you can tell a lot about a person's character based on how they interact with children.Review of Hard Red Wheat flour:The flour was a very fine grind with a very soft and fluffy texture, and smells like your in a wheat field. Barley any bran was caught in a #20 sieve ( I get more bran flakes out of commercial whole wheat flour with the same sieve), and a #25 sieve pulled about 3 grams of bran out of 600 grams of flour.I did a small test batch today to find it's hydration tolerance. At 67% hydration it was sticky as could be, but I was able to form a good gluten structure and pass the window pane test. Even once well kneaded, it was still quite sticky, but that makes the best bread! I made one sandwich loaf, and a few pan fried flat breads with the same dough. I must say they were surprisingly fluffy for a whole grain flour, my kids tasted them and asked me if they were pancakes...... (probably the super fine grind). The best part is the smell and flavour. If you like the smell of fresh grains, you'll love the taste, I swear you think your eating the wheat berries right out of the field. So once again...Awesome Service, thank you very much Peter!!!Awesome flour!!!I will be coming back (hopefully with some apples and carrots for the horses)Juliano Costanzo
