The owner is pretty rude, however the very hard working staff take care of you with dedication and a bright smile. Highly suggest

Read some of the other bad reviews of this place for more details. The staff were great and the facilities were clean but there were many shortcomings. The owner will treat you well if he deems you wealthy and important enough.

I don't often write reviews. But in this case I need to make an exception.I would like to start with the positives...1. The kitchen staff were excellent. My family has a few dietary restrictions, and the kitchen staff bent over backwards to accommodate our specific requirements.2. The deck hands were very attentive and responded to our infrequent requests. They clearly were customer-first focused. However, the negatives outweighed the above in terms of our experience:1. From appearances, the owner is cash-cowing his business. Our cabin had a strong smell of mildew, and the boats and tackle were well worn. We lost two fish simply because the knots failed on the hooks. The lines generally were overused and needed to be replaced. The depth finders were designed before the advent of smart phones, and did not offer GPS tracking - which would have proven very useful given the weather conditions.2. Unknown to us at the time of bookings, the Lodge was holding a fishing tournament during our stay. The net was insufficient attention placed on the folks not participating in the tournament. Very little was offered in terms of suggestions for where to fish...in fact, the only instruction was a video of the owner (perhaps originally recorded on betamax) which instructed us how to cut the bait (which fell under the responsibility of the deck hands). The owner actually suggested he studied whales as a means for how we should fish. I am still trying to figure out how this applies to my family catching fish!3. The fishing conditions were poor during our trip. I cannot hold forces of nature against the owner of the lodge. But what I expect from a service-based industry is to address the conditions and offer assistance (for example - send a hand out to go fishing as research to help the patrons who are struggling to connect with the fish). The excuse of this is the worst year in a decade" does not preclude you from trying to make lemonade out of lemons on behalf of your customers.Needless to say

Been to Black Gold Lodge 7 times over the years. Our biggest group was 14 people. Excellent hosts and excellent lodge. We do the 4 day, standard meaning we bring our own food. Great Value! Best weekend of the year. The owners know so much about the Inlet for those who will listen. About 10 years ago, one of the guests caught a 77 lo king! The biggest our group has caught were 44 and 45 lb.

Infestation of mice, spiders and ants. Mildewy and everything is in need of major renovations. Owners are mean people who are very rude . This place should be shut down permanently.

i have been to 20 fly in lodges over the past 20 years with groups.....this is in the lower 10% of trips....Note that the lodge when you leave they dont tell you that you may have to wait 6 hours for next scheduled flight....they dont tell you that up front....Food boats equipment was sub standard compared to some lodges where you might pay$500 more....but so much better than Black Gold.....i noted that the owner was rude to people i took on trip....not the only poster who made note of this.....Arrogant and rude a bad combination for this kind of business ....I would suggest the owner buy a ticket to another operation and experience a pleasant guest experience

This is a great place with great people. Couldn’t ask for more and my buddies and I are repeat customers and are planning on going back. Caught lots of fish. Lucky I guess but the harder I work the luckier I seem to be. Great equipment, facilities and service. Fish on and don’t sweat the small sh$#.

Came with a group of regulars and had an amazing time. Expectations could be a factor for some of these other reviews. The staff were hard working and friendly coming out of tough COVID times and the chef was fantastic. All inclusive food was well worth the price and the extra service appreciated. The lodge is older, rustic and the house I stayed in was a large, multi bedroom, multi bathroom unit which I had no issues with. Jim runs a no nonsense operation and we had a great time with him.
