This traditional European grocery store carries many fine imported items not found elsewhere. I can accept the fact that they probably import privately and costs are high. However many items more commonly found are priced over the top that is for me one star off followed by a second star off for having some of the staff members act snobbish on what could otherwise be a more pleasant shopping experience .

They have items no one else has (like once I bought crystallized edible violets years ago) I go very occasionally (once a year or less) and their card machine never works. And considering how expensive some items are, it's very impractical. Same thing happened this year.

I found this list place on the USA Today’s top 10 specialty stores. I am sooo glad I did!! I wanted to make the perfect charcuterie board for my boyfriend and I and I had no idea where to begin. The owner’s daughter Sara was EXTREMELY helpful!!! I told her what my plan was and she instantly knew exactly what to suggest. Their meat and cheese selection was amazing!! I got 4 different meats, 2 cheeses, a set of 3 jams, and a fresh baguette! Omg the coffee selection!! Sooo many to chose from! She mixed 2 different beans and grinded them up for me. She was very knowledgeable! Everything tastes AMAZING!! They have so much of everything, from seasonings, cheeses, oils, meats, and coffees. I will definitely be coming back!!

Good service and large selection of European products like imported cheese, salami, mortadella, and so on. I regularly buy coffee here (also bought an Italian coffee pot) and a few other sweets, snacks, etc.

Dutch Stroopwafels (syrup waffles of every kind including honey)... AND my TUC Biscuits (South Africa). I was searching for Stroopwafels for such along time in Montreal. I Finally found them! They are not expired!They are kind to me even though I can't speak french. Tonnes of other great products from specialty chocolate to biscuits to olive oil.The reviews that consider this to be an expensive store probably don't understand that they are providing specialty imports for most of their items. Don't expect Super Store prices, they are not a Super Store!

OMG--fine groceries, from rare Mariage Frères teas to European oils and vinegars, to Dutch cookies, French jams, coffee, rare chocolates, classic eaux de cologne, fine French soaps, and French detergents... This place is heaven on earth, and my parents shopped here in the 1970s before I did. The staff is not aloof; they are merely old world, old fashioned, and wonderfully kind, actually. Laurier Street wouldn't be the same without Gourmet Laurier.

Lots of really good sweets and snacks. It is a little pricey though so be ready for that.
