Waterton Park Front Conservation Area

Beautiful part of the province of Alberta where the prairie abruptly meets the foot of the Rocky Mountains. This without the dozens of kilometers of high, forested foothills that separate the Rocky Mountains from the parkland and prairie that lay to the east of the foothills in the Provincial land and forestry management areas and Banff and Jasper National Parks that are situated to the north and northwest of Waterton Lakes National Park. This conservation area is a further buffer between the prairie farms and ranches that lie to the north and northeast of Waterton Lakes National Park. Established with the help of the Weston family of Loblaws fame some family members became enchanted with this region when traveling here in the mid 1990's. The family decided to donate time, money, and energy to help acquire land and establish a conservation area to act as a buffer zone between the National Park and the agricultural region beyond. This conservation area is a result of the co-operation between local farmers and ranchers, various conservation groups, the local and provincial governments, and the Weston family. It is a great example of what can be accomplished when people with diverse interests seek to work together to preserve something very special.
