Norgate Sand & Gravel Ltd

I have used Norgate Sand and Gravel ( AKA Roberge Trucking) for almost twenty years now (I own a landscaping Company on the North Shore) . During these twenty years , I have encountered the most rude, confrontational and difficult staff and management of any business I have ever been to but I have continued to patronize this establishment due to their prime location . In all these twenty years of patronizing Nogate/Roberge the only time the owner has spoken to me is to yell at me to move my truck , no hello , no acknowledgement , nothing . His lack of customer service and general permanent bad mood must affect the office staff because a more confrontational , argumentative and difficult front end staff I have yet to meet . The last straw for me happened the other day when I went in to pick up material for a job . I requested the amount that I knew my truck could haul (based on weight and previous trips from Norgate/Roberge) and was told by Carol (one of the pleasant front office staff) that this was'nt going to happen and that they would only load half that . Of course I pointed out that my truck was a one ton and was rated for 3500 lbs and what I was asking for was well within this limit . I guess Carol was having one of her many bad days because she came at me guns blazing , pointed to the sign that said they would not overload any vehicle and then told me that she she did'nt like the tone of my voice , she then went to answer a phone call and left me standing there . I waited , she came back , ignored me , I asked , well ? She said no with a sneer and that was it , I said from now on I will take my business elsewhere and that's what I have done . There are other places on the North Shore selling the same products ; Fraser Richmond , Dalton , Bricks and Blocks ,Headwater Management , and Tupper to name a few . I will never be back .

Fast, friendly service. Good inventory at reasonable prices. They rent trailers at $25 per 24 hour period (with proceeds supporting an animal charity), so it is very convenient to get large loads here if you have a trailer hitch. The only downside is they are across the railway tracks and you can get stuck waiting for up to 15 minutes behind shunting freight trains.

Always great service, good materials at a good price. It's a working yard with backhoes driving around so keep the kids in the car

It was the week before Xmas , a nice day to add some mulch to garden . A friend suggested I try Norgate Sand and Gravel .Gave them a call first ,talk with a lady who gave me some brief information and I grabbed my empty three garbage cans .. threw them into my 1991 Honda Civic Hatchback and off I wentUpon Arriving they gracious loaned me a shovel and said the composte I was looking for was in the southeast corner . I asked about the weight of a garbage can filled with compost .. The guy said could be a couple hundred pounds or more .... I drove to bin 15 , back into pile and started shovling into the garbage can . Quickly realized this stuff was really heavy and my civic would not bear the weight .So I decided to put about 1/3 into each can .. otherwise you cannot lift out of the car.. drove back to the office ... The lady ( Carol ) looked at me , without saying a word walked to my car to peer into the civic and said looks like you got three cans > I said no and opened up the car to show her 1/3 in each can ... again without saying a word , walked back into the office , wrote up a bill for two .. I said I don't think it is two !Carol said you will have to check with the yard man " Ok I said where is he .. " in the yard

I rented a trailer from Norgate Sand & Gravel and on return advised Carol at the front desk that a pin in the harness had broken off(from old age) and that a light was broken(from previous renter). She proceeded to write on the bill that she was charging me for a new harness. I suggested to her that it was from old age and that I shouldn't have to pay for it. She looked at me like I was crazy and then told me to go talk to the yard guy. Yard guy said ok it was from old use and he and I went in to advise Carol. She made a scene including huffing and body movement and then took it off the bill. I'm a business owner and I'd be shocked if my employees ever treated my customers like Carol treated me. I don't generally write reviews but felt it was necessary to let folks know about Norgate Sand & Gravel's poor customer service.

If you can try to avoid this place! The staff are very rude especially the loader!

Unhappy customer: Company delivered the wrong product and short shipped the delivery. When I pointed out the office mistake they were rude and demeaning and unwilling to accept their responsibility. As the payment had been made before the delivery (they had their money) they refused to talk further and refused to correct the mistake of sending sand instead of soil.

Norgate was taken over by Creative bricks and bocks. I found some nice size natural pavers. They weighed them to 160 pounds. I weighed them myself back home and found they were only 130 pounds. You can't trust these people.

Great prices and super friendly service. The driver even let our toddler sit in the front loader for a minute, which made his day!

I do not have a credit card. Refuse to get one as I don't spend money I don't have. I offered to give a $800 deposit to rent the trailer for literally 2 loads. To save my self gas and time getting material from them. She refused to help me in any way. Won't return. Even if I have to get my material from Burnaby it's worth it when they are willing to help me out. After all I am a landscaper who would have gave them lots of business
