Hydro Ottawa

Where does all the deposit money go? It doesn't say anywhere on my account or my bill how much they are holding in deposit and what they are paying me in interest for holding the money. Recently they demanded a deposit for a situation that they created. In what world can you demand money from a customer and then charge them late fees when they don't pay the extortion? The person I spoke to on the phone said it's their money and that I owe them for not paying. Judging by the hundreds of other reviews here the company just doesn't care because they don't have to. I'm going to try to change that. We really should just Chavez these electric companies back into the public fold.

Worst service possible. We have been waiting for over 4 months for hydro to be connected to a new build. They tell you what you want to hear and don't have the courtesy to tell you they are not ever going to show up when they said they would. As one of their staff said You can call someone else ... ohhh I guess you can't call anyone else can you!" Pathetic is the only word to describe their service."

Do they even try and restore power during an outage? Needs better infrastructure this is ridiculous how long it takes to get power back on.

Power outage on Apri 5th 2023 after snow. Could not believe how they fake update map outage. Same thing and old pic posting again and again.Two days now no power yet. Living in freezing cold.same one

Hydro Ottawa is amalgamating to their new Hunt Club location near HWY 417 sometime in April 2019. I met with their team at the Home and Garden Show 2019 and am excited to say that they do much more than supply us with electricity! Not sure why more companies don’t seek out Hydro’s endorsement for key electrically based products to help consumers better understand what the impact of cost would be on their bill. I gave 4 stars because what I know of the company merits that, however as I learn more about what they can do, I’ll be inclined to add another!

Despite being opted-out of paper communications, they chose not to send digital bill or notice of impending disconnection- something I was not expecting after making significant payments in the 45 days prior.They rushed to disconnect the first day of a labour dispute, 2 days before a long weekend.When I made contact to clear up the bill they assured me that reconnection would take place within hours; when I called back because that had not happened, they assured me that if I just kept waiting I would have power restored by the end of day.They lied, and then it was a three day weekend.I have now lost everything in my fridge/freezer and incurred costs beyond what I budget for, as I have to live on takeout for 5 days- assuming I get reconnected when they reopen after the holiday- and will also need to replace everything that was lost.All of which would have been totally unnecessary if they had simply communicated by email, as agreed upon.

5 stars for the linespeople who work for Hydro but 0 for the company. Their outage reports have been nothing but a publicity grab - don't tell me how many people you've restored power to, it's an OUTAGE map! The people without power don't care and don't need a sliding map to see how little you care about restoring their power. What a joke that I got my bill this week when my power still has yet to be restored, and of course no delivery fee discount even though nothing is getting delivered. For shame! Don't tell people their power will be back when it won't, there's been 3 days of kissed deadlines, don't give people false hope. Don't say you're working around the clock when you aren't (I get it's unsafe but still), many without power have small children and can't afford to hold up in a hotel indefinitely, communication has been so poor except to pat themselves on the back for their out of date structure. Make a plan for the future, this kind of thing will keep happening with climate change, you need to get better infrastructure in place so we're not in the dark for so long.

I fully understand bad weather and difficult conditions. My issue is the on line updates. The outage tracker! Power went out today before 5pm. Outage tracker says it will be restored 6pm. At 6pm it changed up 10pm at 10pm it now says 4am. Please don’t put up times just to put up times. Put some effort into it. We have families and sometimes we need to make arrangements? It’s just inconsiderate to say 6pm then no it’s 10pm then no it’s 4am and ego knows if they don’t change it again. This is a service we pay for. And it’s not a cheap service. We should charge ottawa hydro a service fee for dealing with this nonsense. Provide the service we pay you for! God knows you make enough money off us.

Their equal monthly payment plan is a scam. I was on it for 3 years and noticed a large balance (almost 1000 dollars) growing in my account. Now I had used the equal monthly payment plan with enbridge and every year they would true up the balance. Not so with hydro Ottawa. I ended up having to double the monthly payment to pay it down. Why the hell would they run it this way? Of course the person on the phone had no answers either.

Huge shout out to the crews who have been working tirelessly to restore power to everyone.8 days without power for our neighbourhood after being promised that power will be returned in 2-3 days. Everyday they say 2-3 more days.Management has lost the plot and needs change. Better infrastructure is obviously required so that you don’t have whole areas without power for 8 days and counting.
