Mahone Bay Trading Company

This store is right in the middle of Mahone Bay, so it's easy to find right across from the Independent grocery store.Despite the name, this is mostly a shoe store. It's quite large and divided between women's shoes on the right hand side of the store and men's on the left.This is not a discount shoe outlet. They are high price brands made with high quality components. They seem to focus on winter shoes, but that could also just be a seasonal thing since it's the dead of winter now.Despite the high prices, there are still good deals to be had on their various clearance racks. The clearance shoes are still really nice, not just shoes that no one else would buy like at so many other stores.I liked the fact that they had a lot of comfortable chairs and disposable socks that made it easy to try things on.Definitely a place to stop if you're in need of something high quality to keep your toes dry!

This is a store with excellent quality shoes, a great variety of styles, from elegant Italian ladies shoes, to sturdy well made hiking boots, and everything in between. Best of all is the help that Annette and Christopher offer, to make sure they search amongst their vast supply of footwear, to bring you the best options to fit your foot needs and your aesthetic aspirations!Thank you for your excellent help today, both pairs of shoes I purchased were perfect, and super comfortable! I used to love shopping here, and have bought MANY shoes and boots here over the last decade. But I've increasingly had negative experiences at the Mahone Bay location. First, the good: nice big location with many fine shoe brand options; it's nice to support local businesses; several areas with comfy chairs or benches to try on shoes and lots of mirrors. Frequent sales. The bad: It has become increasingly difficult to get any customer service. Finally after 40 minutes looking and trying on shoes with my mum, we had seen a woman walk around (looking like a customer and not making any eye contact). We asked and she confirmed she worked there and she did answer a few questions briefly, then walked away. Despite having several staff, they did not care to offer support to customers- which is a big change from when we used to go and they would approach and help us with great, knowledgeable advice. A bigger no-no for me was that when I brought my 3 pairs of shoes up to the cash to purchase, they weren't sure that the 50% off" sticker on one of the pairs was correct. I had to wait for 10+ minutes for the clerk to check with the other sales person who said she didn't know anything about it

Great, guys were super pumped selling today. Had pair white sneakers but went for the teal Isle Jacobsen. Love them

I generally walk in and walk out. I've never found their inventory that interesting or the staff very engaging. But this Friday I wandered in again. The guy that approached me was beyond engaging. He knew the products, knew exactly what my tastes were when I mentioned a couple of my favorite brands, and took me on a tour through the store that actually ended with me buying something I never would have looked at on my own. I don't know his name, tall, dark curly hair, and killer patent oxfords, but whoever is paying him, give him a raise. I've worked in retail a few times and this is the kind of person customers respond to. Well done.

This has got to be the single worst customer experience I have ever had. I was the only one in the store and not one of the three employees even spoke to me. They were so busy gossiping about another employee that I eventually had to wave a shoe at them to ask for a size. They told me from the counter that if it wasn’t in the boxes that they didn’t have it. So sad to see another Mahone Bay shop close, but it is no wonder. Oh, and the other comment about the dirty hand sanitizer bottle was right on....that thing is filthy. I put my own sanitizer on after using it.
