One of the best top rated residential care facilities in Hamilton, Ontario, if not #1, and likely consistently so throughout the years. (Even according to Ontario disability staff!) Its a family run business and clients are treated like family and everyone gets along very well, unlike other homes in town. Its a large home, three floors, and most accommodations are shared rooms, from 2 to a room to 4 to a room. There are 5 coveted private rooms, but turnover is far and few between. There is staff available 24 hours, and the home is kept immaculately clean, cleaned thoroughly daily. The food id rate an 9 out of 10. Portions are just about right sized and a small snack is given with medications nightly. The area the house is situated at is in very close proximity to gage park and there is a tim Hortons a stone throws away for those who need to counterbalance their sedating meds with ample amounts of coffee. There are also 2 convenience stores in the extreme vicinity whereby you can buy scratch tickets from (rcf residents love their scratch tickets for some reason. Staff is well trained to personally know each client's medical situation, and often are in touch with each client's respective nurses, case managers and of course the pharmacist of choice. Clients are thoroughly scrutinized to ensure maximum compatibility with others. There is a small gym in the basement, and out front a unique lounge arrangement. The owners never cut corners for financial gain. For instance, in the summer season every room gets an air conditioner that can be run 24/7. This is rare when it comes to rcfs and personally speaking, I suffered irreversible heat stroke the year before at a stoney creek rcf as the 3rd floor was not air conditioned and fans werent allowed to be operated during the day (!) At main east rest home Everyone is treated humanely and with respect. A sort of recovery/enhancement plan can be put into place for each resident if requested. The atmosphere is very friendly, jovial and easy going. Like stated previously, a customized care plan is put into place for each resident. Not enough words of positivity can be written about this place. Your son/daughter/relative or friend is in safe hands. Plus the immediate community surrounding the home have no bias against the home. Often this is the case as many residents of rcf's have troubling mental health issues, which tends to offend and spook out nearby home owners. For over 40 years Main East Rest Home has cared for and nurtured numerous people from all walks of life and not a bad word about the place has ever been uttered. And not all residents are mental health challenged, there are private residents with perhaps physical disabilities and zero mental health ones, who prefer this stellar stately home over typical extra expensive nursing homes. This place is the best bet in terms of residential care facilities. Sign up and get on the wait list! Apparently as of oct 2020 its been put up for sale (house and business). Its recently been sold for 2.1 million. Some of the same staff are still working there. 2.1 million it was sold for recently. Big big house, holds 25 people.
