Court of King’s Bench of Manitoba

the building itself is truly gorgeous.. and the history is an attention grabber.. really cool that most court cases are open to the public.. totally the destination to take yer school kids to for a field trip maybe?..

I've only been there a handful of times for legal proceedings. Tried to be polite and friendly with the guards/security as I was passing thru the security check point. I understand there's alot of not so nice people but not everyone is like that. Every time I've gone thru this area the guards/security are rude. These guys need social interaction training desperately or need to seek a new career path.

The lady that answers the phone for the kings bench is terrible. You can tell she is too lazy to do her job. It took her 2 months to tell me to go to the law courts to get information I needed. Every time I would call and ask for information she would say it's out of my hands. It was their mistake not filing their paper work on their end. Funny how fast they were to garnish my wages for a fine I had paid and how its taking 2 months to get it back. I left several voicemails and she would not get back to me. I had to really finally press her to get a simple checking number she wouldln't give me that told me it didn't exist. I don't know why they keep someone like around. I went down to the law courts and the woman there helped me right away. To bad she wasn't working for the Kings bench rather then that awful woman who seems to lazy or doesn't care to do her job properly. Hire someone else to take care of Kings bench matters.

I recently experieced an application for protection order being thrown out on the basis of a missing recording from a witness that was present at the actual hearing date. Firstly they lost the recording. Second they did not allow the 4 witnesses at the event speak. They could have cancelled the date and saved everyone's time and money, but they didn't. They also could have ensured the recording was on. Processes are not transparent and if you speak to the clerk's at the front you may receive different answers depending on who who you are talking to. Clearly a system under construction at the expense of the public good. The addition of a private transciption office has further muddied the process. I used to have a lot of faith in manitoba and now see this as misplaced.It is, however, a pretty building as others have suggested.

A sad state of affairs. I hope that more lawyers train in the joint program through U oT combining a Masters of Social Work with a Law degree. No one seems to have any cross training, no members of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network or any trauma integrated approaches to information processing and legal process. Outdated and out of touch.

Not overly friendly, not rude. Just get the job done service. Building is beautiful on the outside.

Law Day 2019. Actually fun. Informative.

I went to the Winnipeg provincial courthouse on Jan 1X, 2022, to get a document. I traveled from Ontario to Winnipeg as Winnipeg was my previous home. I was supposed to talk to the “queen’s Bench”.I went through the security check. The 2 security guards were nice and professional. I got ticket #398 from the red color dispensing machine. I sat on the middle curved bench. There were no customers around. I was the only one waiting. I waited nearly 10 minutes. The number display showed #396. The display showed 396 for the whole 10 minutes duration. 3 employees were working on the queen’s bench plus the cashier. Then after 10 minutes the number display suddenly changed to 397. As it was not 398 I did not go to the counter. Still, I was the only person waiting. Suddenly 2 employees were looking at me but still, my # was not called. I saw multiple people getting together and chatting and laughing and I was wondering why I have been waiting for 20 minutes when there were no customers around.Finally, after 20 minutes I got up and went to the counter as #398 was not called. I was told that the number was called. But still, the number has not changed to my number, on the display. The front staff was rude and told me that she is busy now and could not help. That was nearly after 20 minutes. I mentioned that I was waiting till my number was called. They may have said something but what is the point of having a numbering system and a dispenser if you do not use it. I was sitting in the middle, far away. even if they said something, how would I know? What if I have a hearing disability. After I was told that she was busy by one front desk agent I turned around to go and sit. suddenly the agent right next to the busy employee mentioned that she could help. Then my application was processed. None of them were professional. Three was no “hi”, there was no smile they were absolutely rude and unprofessional. Also apparently there is a clear disconnect between the number dispenser and the calling the numbers.
