I dropped in while visiting from the US. The space is awesome. Brand new equipment and serious and friendly members. They had both power and deadlift bars. And lots of racks and squat and bench stations. What else can you ask for. I will definitely be back here whenever I visit again!

I have been training with Shawn at The Bar for 5 years now. Coming out of a car accident and in a lot of pain, with mobility issues, I was a bit nervous to push myself. Shawn made me feel at ease right away. I knew that he was very knowledgeable in all areas and that I was in good hands. From mobility, to strength training, to calisthenics, and fascial stretch therapy, he knows it all! He’s very passionate about helping others move with ease and enjoying the journey. The gym itself, and the other members are very welcoming and supportive! Member’s ages and fitness level vary, so you wont feel intimidated. There is much more of a community feel compared to commercial gyms. The best part is the cute frenchie that is always there! I suggest Shawn and The Bar to any friends that are looking for rehab, training or a great facility to workout, and I would suggest the same to you!

I reached out to Shawn initially to help with some shoulder pain that I had been experiencing for a couple of months. Going from being able to do 20 push ups in a row, I couldn’t even comfortably do one. Shawn took me through a very elaborate, shoulder-focused full body assessment that gave him the insight to build me a program tailored to rehabbing my shoulder as well as targeting my strength and stability/mobility deficits. Even from just the initial assessment, I learned so much about the way I move and how it affects areas of my own training.Over the course of the next few weeks, we worked on strengthening my shoulder by stabilizing and mobilizing the joint through a series of drills. He assigned me drills to perform outside of our sessions too to ensure consistency and efficacy. Through Shawn’s guidance, I am now able to perform movements at my shoulder in a much more pain-free manner. He’s also helped me fully recover from a strained groin that was lingering for awhile. On top of targeting where I was experiencing pain, we worked on my squat and deadlift techniques to which have both significantly improved.Shawn is extremely knowledgeable, supportive and fun to work with. He is not only patient and professional with his clients, but also cares about bettering their education so that they may apply it themselves. The passion he has for his craft is exhibited through the way he trains his students.While I’m grateful for how training with Shawn has rendered me moving with more ease and we efficiency, I am more grateful for how it’s changed my ability to coach my own clients. I’ve gathered so much insight from him to tackle my clients’ own weak links and help them move more efficiently. He’s given me the confidence as well as the tools to be a better personal trainer and athlete.

Professional, close-knit, welcoming is what it feels in Bar & Strength. If you are looking for a break from community centers and commercial gyms, you should check out this place. I really like that people who come here all share a common goal - striving to improve their fitness and technique, and you won't feel like an outsider regardless of your background and age. There are professional trainers here who knows what they are doing to help you achieve your goals. A gem for South Van and Richmond area. Highly recommended.

This gym has everything you need as a powerlifter. Competition spec. combo racks, power bars, kilo plates, and carpeted platforms for squat, bench AND deadlifts. The community The Bar have brought up is amazing and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time training here.

I highly recommend anyone and everyone to try out The Strength Collective! It has all the equipment you ever need in a gym, and provides both a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. Both Kenny and Richard are very knowledgeable, and are always working to make sure all members have the tools they need to succeed. Could not recommend enough!
