Untrained in modern medicine.I would never take a loved one here after our experience. They are proficient at: Misdiagnosis, aggravating the situation for caregivers, mercilessly violating all kinds of your rights, especially privacy.

PLEASE BE AWARE - A RETIREMENT HOME CANNOT TERMINATE A TENANCY BASED ON HEALTH REASONS. The Terraces terminated my Grandma's tenancy illegally. When she fell and was unable to walk, they advised my Aunt that my grandma could not return to the Terraces for the reason that she required a 2 person assist. My Aunt was not aware of this law when the Terraces firmly advised her that my grandma could not return to her home where she lived with my grandfather, after her fall in February of 2020. When my aunt only recently reviewed the RTA, it clearly stated that Retirement Homes cannot terminate a resident's tenancy based on health reasons. This information was later confirmed when she contacted the RHRA. On the other hand, when my grandfather potentially required 2 persons to lift him (he continued to reside at the Terraces after my grandmother's passing) a solution was found. An OT ordered a Hoyer life. In addition, my grandfather was entitled to 4 hours/week Terraces hours from St. Elizabeth. Therefore, my grandmother would also have been entitled to these hours. Plus, my grandfather was entitled to 7 hours per week from LHIN, and again my grandmother would have been entitled to the same. With both Terraces hours for St. Elizabeth care and LHIN hours provided there WAS a solution for grandmother's 2 person assist back in February of 2020. Prior to grandmother's fall, they had two private care workers at the Terraces, each one working 42 hours per week to provide care for both of them 12 hours a day, and as with my grandfather there would have been supplemented additional care for changing and dressing grandmother with the assistance of the extra Terraces hours and LHIN hours and the use of St. Elizabeth, plus the use of a Hoyer lift. In the end, grandmother would not have been required to be separated from her husband, and the two care workers that loved and cared for her.My grandmother suffered from increased confusion, mental anguish, and isolation as a result of being taken away from familiar surroundings and the people that loved her: moved first from Sunnybrook hospital to Sunnybrook transition care and about 5 weeks later to the Apotex Jewish Care home at the height of Covid, where her care workers could not assist her as they were not permitted to cross over from the Terraces to the Apotex. my aunt was unable to see her for the first 3 or 4 months of her stay at Apotex due to Covid, and thereafter, my aunt was only permitted a one hour per week visit. In November of 2020, my aunt was designated a caregiver and then visited 3 days per week. My grandmother was left alone the rest of the time, and only given assistance for changing and eating. She suffered cruelly from Dementia, left with no stimulation, placed in the hallway to rot and eventually passing away in the most horrific way. Her end would have been 100 times more comfortable, had she been returned to live with her husband at the Terraces, and where ger care workers could have continued to care for her.Baycrest is supposed to be the foremost centre of care for those suffering from Dementia, and yet they completely failed their mark in the care of my grandmother. The management of the Terraces did not respond to my Aunt's complaint, and actually completely have ignored it. Therefore, a formal complaint has been filed with the regulatory authority for Retirement Homes. I only wish that no one has to suffer like grandmother did.

Easy to reach with public transport. The hospital is quite big with multiple buildings. Each building encapsulating its own properties. I have been working here as a research student at Rotman Research Institute. I found all the people to be very helpful. Walking in the hostel and seeing happy faces of old people is what makes the aura awesome.

I can't even rate this 1 star and would give it a minus 5 stars. I would avoid this place and feel guilty that we chose this for our mother. My 95 year old mother was appalled in the treatment given to her after under hip surgery. Nurses seem to be uncaring and don't even smile, The night staff is the worse. One nurse came to her in the morning and was like a drill searjant telling her she needs to get out of bed. When she mentioned she couldn't suddenly she became surgery sweet on her. Same nurse came to give her her medication and my mother didn't recognize the pills and she said they weren't hers. She said that she would come back with the proper medication and never did. Nurse was reported and was under investigation. My mother told her to stay away from her and not to come near her again. My mother had physiotherapy that day and mentioned it to the physiotherapist who reported it and the nurse was under investigation. She never received her medication since the nurse documented that she received it so they couldn't t give it again. My mother told that nurse never to come near her again.Since the incident my mother was finally treated with kindness and compassion that she deserved. Since then she has seen that nurse twice on that floor so she is still working there. The food is terrible especially breakfast and lunch which is packaged and not fresh items. Patients have trouble opening them and have to ask staff to assist them Evening meals are a hit or miss and mostly a miss.I was there with my mother every day for three weeks and heard nothing but complaints from other patients. One told me a story of his roommate who need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. He rang the buzzer and finally a nurse came and after an hour took him the bathroom but it was too late and he had urinated in his bed. When the nurse took him back to bed he was told it was o.k. and to go back to bed where he had to lay in urinated sheets.Another patient checked out early and said that she would continue her exercises at home and didn't want to be there anymore.

It has been 9 years and 2 months since I set foot in this hospital. My story is about my wife who was in Palliative care(6th floor) from mid November until her passing on December 15, 2013. I was grateful and still am for the care she received from the nursing staff and doctor who was there at the time. What made it more difficult was that she was only 50. She lost her battle with ovarian cancer. I have wanted to go back to see if some of those staff are still there. I hope one day I will get the chance to thank them again.

My Mom spent 1 month here for rehab. Don't have enough space to write everything that was wrong, but will point out a few things that stood out. First, the food served in the dining room is practically inedible. My Mom filled something out stating certain foods she cannot eat, but was still served them. The food is bland, cheap and poorly made. Secondly, the staff are very mixed as far as professionalism and empathy go. For instance, there is a rehabilitation worker named Melissa who is perfect for her job. She is kind, friendly and goes the extra mile to make her patients feel good. Then there is Anna. Not sure why she is doing this job, maybe she can't do anything else. She is rude, lacks patience and empathy, and generally makes you feel as though you're bothering her. She needs to be trained as to how to work with people in general. Other staff and patients don't seem to like her either, but I don't think she even realizes how she rubs people the wrong way. Lastly, the staff at the nursing station don't assist you much at all. If you have heartburn or upset stomach (again, the food), expect to buy your own medicine for it. They don't provide things like that. All in all, if you have the choice to go elsewhere, do it. You won't be happy at Baycrest.

NO EMERGENCY - I wished Google Maps marked that this hospital did not offer emergency. It’s clearly marked at the hospital but no indication/effort was made by Google.

Warning......If you care for your loved one, Do Not take them to this hospice. I brought my mother to Baycrest on June 8Th 2021 and she died a week after. It's been a year of my mom passing away in that place and there is not a day that I can't stop blaming myself for taking her there. All they do for your loved one there, they speed up their death by morphine and most of them they die of hunger, because they are always asleep. No shower, No care, No food.... yes... there is food but nobody is awake to eat it, No Compassion. If someone wants to end their loved ones life.... submit them to Baycrest Hospice....They will promise you, when it's time for you to say goodbye to your loved one, they know and will call you. I never got that phone call.... except when she passed away. Please see the pictures of day 1 and the 2nd day.

This review is for the 6th floor Palliative Care unit. My brother entered the facility in August and died of cancer 6 days later. He was in a lot of pain and discomfort but the doctor and nurses in this place made his last days as comfortable as could be. These people are truly angels from heaven! They respond compassionately, quickly, and professionally to every issue-- no matter how great or small. I was particularly impressed with the nurses on duty the day my brother passed away. They were so mindful of our suffering and grief-- they managed to be right where they should be when we needed something, yet out of the way when it came to the personal space that my family needed in our hour of pain.I can't say enough good about these nurses and staff. We are forever in their debt and I will never forget them although we were only there for six days.
