Shopping at this store is singular experience. Prepare to be overwhelmed! David, the owner, I think is a great salesmen and a total character. I could see why some folk, probably more sensitive or reserved types, do not like him or at least his approach but on the contrary for me I think he’s great to chat with.He has an impressive offer of the newest nonfiction books from all the most renowned academic presses (Yale, Harvard, Princeton, etc) which you won’t find elsewhere. That, combined with his knowledge of the material and his wit, keep me coming back even if I always leave with more books than I intended on buying. His recommendations to me are always solid.

I have been there quite a few times and every time I got some thing to bring back. Once Mr. Lake shewed me his whole collection of rare and old books and let me stay there to choose and read. Sometime, he showed me other stuff which I am not agree with him. Most of the time he is nice and I am glad to chat with him. But sometimes he is quite the opposite. Since he is the boss with hundreds of book that we love to buy, we have no choice. I still will go, but differently. The rooms are not well organized and messy. Maybe it is common for antique book store. He maybe a successful businessman, I mean to make money. But not good for custom service.Though not happy some time but still need to go buy. That is the reality. Right?

Captivating store teeming with novel books, coins, and banknotes. Despite its cozy confines, Donald's friendly demeanor and extensive expertise create an inviting atmosphere.

walked into the store, was rudely told to get off my phone (there were no signs) I assume it was the owner and he was extremely unpleasant. I stayed to give him the benefit of the doubt and then he told me to take my backpack off as it would knock books off shelves?can't help but feel racially profiled - as I was leaving he thanked me for going. completely ruined my day, i would never return.do not recommend and also don't understand his behaviour - he lost a customer, I've never walked into an independent bookstore and not purchased a book.

I cannot speak more highly of this amazing small business!! I was looking to purchase an old, rare map as a gift, and they had exactly what I needed! In addition, the care and attention that Stephanie showed throughout the whole process was outstanding! Thank you!

The first I went, I had the best experience ever. The owner was extremely helpful and super enthusiastic in helping me. I was looking for fashion books, and he said of course go on the 3rd floor my daughter will help you. I left with an amazing feeling. However, I went again today to show the place to my dad who LOVES book and was the main reason why I went there in the first place: to buy him Christmas presents. We went today and I asked if the fashion books were upstairs and he said yes on the third floor. We went upstairs and he YELLED at us for going upstairs saying he never gave us permission to go and that his store was not to browse. But it’s so crowded in books you have no other option than to browse. We told him we were leaving and he said GOOD. Bye.I spent over 200$ on my first visit, but I can assure you I regret giving him any money at all and will never go back.

The place to go in Toronto if you are, like me, unsatisfied with the state of most bookstores these days.

Found this bookstore during my latest business trip to Toronto. Interesting mix of bookstore and curiosa. The shop is packed with books. From the floor up to the ceiling and in piles everywhere. Many old books including leather bound, antiques. Many obscure books but also classics. Bought the Dumas trilogy, Ivanhoe, The Iliad and several other books. Incredible as it is, the owner actually knows what is in store and where to find out. Lovely chap for a chat.
