The Chicken Shack Motel

Years ago, when I was a young teen with my family, we hiked the Lake Superior trail, our first backpacking trip ever. We slept in the chicken shack afterwards and to this day still tell the story on how this was the best experience after that camping trip.

What a great little place! Best of all, the host and her friends/family are all very friendly, amazing and hospitable folks. We almost ran out of gas while driving through their town. The gas station next to them was closed (not a 24-hour station). They offered us overnight parking with our trailer until the station opened the next morning. They even invited us to have dinner with them. We hung out to chat and discovered true Canadian hospitality. We will be sure to deliberately stop by next time we're passing, even if just to say hello. Thank you again!

Such a wonderful place to stay! It feels like your at the cottage. So homey, and very clean. Colleen is such a lovely host and goes above and beyond for her guests. Most DEFINITELY coming back!! Thanks Colleen! Amazing place! Food is outstanding!!

Wife found this little gem, Kathy and Coleen are very nice managers who are friendly friendly and accommodating to guests. We also enjoyed the fried chicken, frys and a ceasar salad. Prepared and delivered to our room by Kathy and it was delicious. Highly recommend that you phone ahead to book a room. Craft store,art store and general store gasstation short walk from motel. Pancake Bay provincial park is a couple kilometers from the motel.

We stopped here for lunch and got the Chicken Bucket Dinner - all of it was amazing and the owner was super friendly. Loved it here and would absolutely go back. Seems like a great place to stay too.

Grabbed dinner here while camping at Pancake Bay Provincial Park. Just a few minutes away from the park and the friendliest people you'll meet along Hwy 17. We had the 10 piece bucket which had 10 of the biggest chicken drumsticks I've ever seen. The bucket comes with fries and a side salad. All excellent. We also had an order of onion rings... Super yummy and enough for 4 people. Added an order of chicken tenders and fries because we didn't realise how big the drumsticks in the buck were. So. Much. Awesome. Food.Everything is cooked fresh when you order, so be prepared to wait a bit while it cooks. It is totally worth the wait.

We love this place. If it wasn't 8 hours from home we would come back more often. We were hiking in Pukaskwa National Park and had to be rescued by a boat because of a severely twisted ankle. It was a gloomy day driving south after our hike was cut short and we needed somewhere to stay. We called ahead and got the last room at the Chicken Shack, and we got in late after the restaurant was closed. The owner (Colleen) prepared supper for us even though it was closed (pulled chicken on a bun - amazing). After a tough day and a long drive and being tired, it was the ultimate comfort food. Someone even brought us ice packs for the bad ankle, everyone was so nice. The coffee, tea, and breakfast the next day were awesome as well. I had 2 egg McMuffins with peameal bacon. The hospitality, warmth, hot shower, yummy food, and overall accommodation were just what we needed. Close to all the good attractions as well. Thank You.

Great place. 200 yards from the Motel is a grocery store and a liquor store. Also a fish n chip shack opposite. What else do you need?Colleen made me feel so welcome and went out of her way to help out. Highly recommend. The chicken was lovely!

Most disgusting place I ever stayed. Do not trust this lady. We booked 3 months in advanced. Then one week prior confirmed and the night before we confirmed again. We got there so tired and exhausted. She told us she gave our room away. So she gave us the trailer. It was so moldy I could not even breath. So I had to leave 2 hours I just could not stand the smell I was so tired. Drove another 4 hours for another hotel.

By far the friendliest accommodating place you will find along highway 17!!!!!!The food is great, the rooms are clean, comfy and felt like home. Met some great people sitting out on the deck. A place we will definitely revisit ….made new friends that we will never forget. Thank you for the kind hospitality! ❤️
