Beautiful landmark!!! HOWEVER if you are coming here for pictures it currently has some construction of some sort happening behind it with bright orange fences set up. The view on either side of the ruins is also not very pleasant. One side is very industrial with a bus depot just kiddie corner to the ruins and some flat empty lot. The other has an odd blue run down building of some sort that is weirdly close to the ruins? Will need to probably edit the background of photos taken at this location however the ruins themselves are beautiful.

Wife loves to bring her clients here for photos. We did family photos here as well. If you are early enough you tend to have the place to yourself. Later in the day there's usually a few people here. AVOID AT GRADUATION TIME. Super busy, limousines all over. General chaos.

It is so great that City of Calgary has spots like this. We had our wedding photos done here 1 year ago today.

Cool place to shoot, but busy AF. You might need to wait for some dance crew to finish using the space for 5 hours..

It is great to have such a site near Calgary. Looking at the information, it is found that this is the earliest hospital and sandstone building in Calgary. It reflects Calgary’s protection of heritage from the side.

Lots of history to see here! This is the site of an old burned down building where a part of the ruins are still standing. Many people come here to take instagram photos. If you are in east village this place is worth a visit.

In 1894, as the city incorporated, $10,000 was allocated by citizens to construct a new hospital. Calgary's second General Hospital building served the community from 1895 until its controversial demolition in 1973.A modern and convenient building, it boasted electric lights, a signal bell, telephones, and dumbwaiters. A community endeavour, the hospital was financially supported by Calgary's establishment including A.E. Cross, William Pearce, and the tireless fund-raising of Mrs. Pinkham, wife of Calgary's Anglican Bishop.By 1908, the hospital had outgrown its facilities, and a new hospital was constructed across the Bow River. The old hospital was used as an isolation hospital, and then in 1953, leased to the United Church of Calgary who opened a seniors' residence two years later. One of Calgary's earliest examples of formal architecture, the hospital was designed in a simplified Romanesque style typical of the 1900s. It was an early use of sandstone on a large scale project. The site is a strong representation of Calgary's maturing corporation prior to the turn of the century. In February of 1971, the property was acquired by the Metropolitan Foundation of Calgary from The City. The Province offered to erect a new building on the site, recommending the demolition of the original buildings. One of Calgary's most heated heritage debates ensued. A Provincial recommendation suggested that the building was not of regional importance, and demolition followed despite attempts by a local protest group, led by Jack Long, to lobby for rehabilitation of the building. A portion of the demolished building was incorporated into a park on the original location, and dedicated by then Premier Peter Lougheed in 1974. Today, the site is known as Rundle Ruins, named after the senior citizens' home that occupied the building from 1955 to 1971.

Really interesting to happen upon some unmarked ruins in the middle of Calgary. Took some photos, had an odd creepy feeling. Turns out it's the remnants of a hospital! Cool back story.

Neat little place beside the Stampede Grounds with a bit of Calgary History. There is an old ruin of a sandstone structure that once stood here and a sandstone Sun dial. Has some benches and bit of a park area that is a good place to explore or just hang out and have a picnic or something.

Rundle Ruins were the site of Calgary’s second general hospital, the first being a small house where the head nurse was also the cook. The City of Calgary donated $10,000 to the construction of the hospital. It underwent several renovations and additions and was Calgary’s most significant hospital until the third General Hospital was built across the Bow River.
