Paul Carter’s insight into the cause of my mystery illness saved my life!After many weeks of the most excruciating pain, sleepless nights, inability to eat, and a strange progressive paralysis which was afflicting both my arms and legs, no medical personnel could determine what was wrong with me.After six trips to hospital emergency departments, an abdominal ultrasound, a chest-and-abdominal CT Scan, a nuclear scan of my gallbladder, a gastroscopy, and more than twenty chest and abdominal X-rays, no one could figure out what was causing my incredible pain, weakness, and numbness. The pain all over my upper body was like being burned alive.By the time Paul saw me for the first time, I could barely walk on my own. I did not have the strength to dress myself, bathe myself, or comb my own hair. My hands wouldn’t work – I couldn’t even press a cell phone hard enough to answer an incoming call. I just moaned and whimpered through the 24 hours of each day, writhing in agony. And then I came down with Bell's palsy, which is a facial paralysis.I couldn’t lie on my back because of the searing pain in my upper back, and I couldn’t lie on my sides because of the agony it caused in my arms. So I propped myself up in various sitting positions and attempted to dose off, which hardly ever happened. I just existed in a living hell, watching the functions of my body fail, one after another. I could hardly breathe, because the numbness and paralysis had extended to my diaphragm, and my chest could not move in and out to accommodate proper breathing. My peristaltic action had ceased, so my bowels wouldn’t function. It was clear to me that I was on a fast track towards death.It was all such a mystery, because I had been a perfectly healthy person before the onslaught of this illness.Thankfully, at my first appointment with Paul, he took all these factors into consideration. After carefully listening to my story and employing Chinese medicine diagnostic techniques, Paul told me, “I think your body is being attacked by something external, something like a toxin or a venom. I don’t think your problems are coming from an internal condition such as cancer or an autoimmune disease. I think it’s something else – maybe something like Lyme disease.”“Lyme disease!” I said, in shock. “That’s my worst nightmare! I hope I don’t have Lyme disease!”However, I took Paul’s suggestion to heart and pressed my nurse practitioner to give me the test for Lyme disease. It was my impression that she agreed just to humour me. She didn’t have any idea what was causing my symptoms and had referred me to a neurologist, but that was going to take time.The day that my Lyme disease test came back positive was such a shock. To the best of my knowledge, I had not had a tick bite. I had never even seen a tick on my body!With Paul’s wonderful acupuncture treatments, my searing pain had rapidly lessened even before the official Lyme diagnosis. I couldn't believe the weeks of agonizing pain could simply end, but the pain just disappeared. Also, Paul's treatments had caused the Bell’s palsy on the right side of my face to quickly reverse, and that side of my face returned to normal.Paul's treatments, along with the many weeks of antibiotics which my nurse practitioner prescribed, relieved all my symptoms. The paralysis subsided and the feeling returned to my limbs. Paul also gave me herbs to speed the healing.The immense damage that the Lyme bacteria did to my nervous system will take a long time to perfectly heal, yet I am confident that I will be able to return to normal in every way.
