Route 6 Fish 'n Chips

Best place for some real island home cooking! Even our tour guy Paul from Tours-R-Us had a serving.

We ate AMAZING fish and chips, and clams while staying in North Rustico, and got to meet Ron, the man himself! The food was incredible and we will definitely be back. Good sized servings and super tasty!

The fish was good and so were the clams, but the fries were on the heavy oily side. It's a hard working one man show at the side of the road. The location is easily accessible. 3 stars because it was average and we had better on the island. It looked very popular with the locals judging from the number of people stopping by. Love that the prices already include tax as well.

Caroline wanted to try this and I was quite happy to tag along as I love fish n chips, and when we started it was a lovely day for a motorcycle ride.We arrived a bit before they opened so did a tour of North Rustico Harbour to see in person how Fiona had rearranged Caroline’s childhood vacation home. Sad really, with a lot of changes to take in.When we headed back up the hill, he was open and serving a couple of people ahead of us, but we didn’t have long to wait and chatted with the gentleman in front.We ordered the clam and fish combo with chips for Caroline, and as I was going to share her chips, I ordered the two piece fish only.We didn’t have long to wait, and the wireless debt machine they use made it simple to tip and pay, before salting and malting our chips, we headed back to take our pick of the picnic tables.Caroline offered up a piece of clam for me to try and it was okay, and she said “It’s been a long time since I had deep fried clam, and I really enjoyed them!” She also enjoyed a few more chips than half, and apologized with a giggle as she said the remainder were mine. :)The batter on the fish was perfect! Light, crisp yet yielding. It was lovely and I’d heartedly recommend them to all comers. I should have found out what type of fish it was, but I assumed halibut or haddock. It was cooked to perfection!The fries are a simple hand cut Russet that went well with the malt & salt.I’d happily visit again, and I will now rank this as top three fish and chips on the island.

2023 Update. Still amazing food, with fast friendly service! You won't regret ordering an extra piece of fish... its just that good! Fabulous place for Fish and Chips. 2 piece is a good size and the price is very reasonable. Very friendly and fast service.

At first, this place is easy to miss as it appears to be an ordinary rural shack and I was pleasantly surprised at how great this place is. The food is wonderful and well proportioned at a very reasonable price. The man running the shack was very impressive as he was able to remember our orders and calculate the prices nearly instantly while getting our order correct.

Wow Great fish and Chips. We were driving by and saw a lineup in a grass field in front of a small shack. Saw the sign Route 6 Fish & Chips. Being from the west coast we had to give them a try. Fresh and very taste. I would say top 5 from a shack on the middle of a field.

The fish was Uber delicious and fresh. The portions are more than generous. The fish is the star, the fries average. I love the fact that we were supporting a local family. We will be back sooner than later.

If you want a delicious dinner then head over to this little island eatery. We had the fish and chips and the chicken strip and chips dinners and it did not disappoint! Will be going again!
