Been doing this for a decade. Over my time here I've grown as an individual, and as a martial artist. Every year there's always change, both good and bad, but this dojo family stays strong and steadfast no matter what. If you simply want the bragging rights for receiving a black belt, then this isn't the place for you. Contrary to popular belief this place isn't about the money. If you dedicate your time and effort, then you will succeed. What you put into it, you get out of it. Being here made me who I am today, helped me grow out of my shell and be able to really live out the best version of me. Nothing worth while is easy. This dojo is like my second home, and yeah people come and go, but those really interested in digging their roots deep into learning about aikido, and really getting in depth of the art WILL succeed. The sensei here's great too. He'll make you work hard for every belt, and for every achievement, but that's what makes this all worth while. I love my dojo family and dojo memories.

Welcoming for newbies, Sensei is knowledgeable and patient, especially with the kids. Everyone is friendly and helpful. A very community minded dojo.

Yoshinkan Aikido practised here is a very formal and strong style of Aikido. The dojo is large with room for 30+ students at a time. Taught by a 6th Degree black belt with experience and knowledge of all of Yoshinkan's highest level teachers in Japan and Canada. Martial Arts and respect are very serious at the dojo, but the students and Sensei do not take themselves seriously (small jokes will be made at times). The kids class is phenomenal. The balance between girls and boys will vary but to generalize the girls grow very fast in the kids class. Kids who show drive and discipline can be invited to participate (with a kid partner) at some adult class times. This makes it a very family friendly environment. If you are looking for a self defense martial art for yourself, or an activity for the kids on Wednesdays & Saturdays, drop by Yoshinkan Aikido and see what's here. The monthly fees are lower than anything else out there.

Best Dojo in Scarborough, sensei is great with kids and very family oriented environment. He knows his stuff. You earn your rank/belt as you really earn. not just keep paying and get belt like some martial art school. This is not that type of dojo. If you willing to put your time and learn with respect, you will get more than what you put in.

Lots of chances to go to seminars (there was even one with Robert Mustard Sensei, with another one coming up this June), more than enough people to work with, a clean and organized dojo not shared with any other group, and a great inspirational Sensei who knows what he's doing, paired with hard work and after class dinners, makes for one hell of a place to train. Great place to be at if you want to learn yoshinkan aikido and train with great people. Not the best place to be at if you want to come just to complain about how much you don't want to be there.

I've called this place home since 2012 and I love training there. Not only is Shumak Sensei knowledgeable and well trained (he is ranked 6th Dan in Yoshinkan Aikido), he is a wonderful person with a true passion for teaching. As a woman who was looking for a female friendly place to learn a martial art, its a great place for women to train as there really are no male dominated egos here! There is a however, a lot of fun, laughter, lots of attention to your own personal training and a chance to amaze yourself at how far you can surpass what you thought were your own limits!

How many fitness centres are full? Never! All places experiences a low/high period. During the low period, you just get more attention from the Sensei; just be ready for the critiquing! Now that’s personal attention for you! I know because it happens sometimes on Sundays during holiday seasons! If you’re looking to “buy” a black belt without truly earning it or taking the journey, you are wasting your time and money. Sensei will make you work hard for it! Once you’ve attended a seminar, you’ll see how all that hard work attracts the positive attention of the visiting Sensei!!!The journey is about learning self-discipline, awareness and the sharing of experiences. Making friends along the way is an added bonus! This Dojo has done it for me and my family.

This dojo is my second home and I really enjoy the warmth and encouraging community here. Everyone supports each other and we all grow together. The Sensei here is very knowledgeable/friendly and classes are interesting and fun. The fees are very affordable and the facilities are clean and organized. I recommend this dojo to anyone interested in learning Aikido while being surrounded by great people.
