Polarized opinions about this place but I was told the food would make up for the lack of customer service, I came mentally prepared and relaxed... and I personnaly had a GREAT experience here. Didnt even dislike the bit of attitude: it quickly melted and warmed up to great service! Take it with a grain of salt! Great chefs are peculiar artist/humans: they dont always know what to do and how to be with people coming into their space. I love everything about the place: the selection of books, the excellent chaï tea, the incredible sandwich and soup... the list goes on. This is a well thought out place, worth eating at and buying books from. Will go back!

Hands down the BEST cacao drink I have ever had. The shop owner, Manon, has a wealth of knowledge and takes care to sell high quality products. Come in with an open heart and don't leave without a warm drink in your hands.

We went during the off-season, it was quiet during our first visit to Fulford Harbour. Loved the opportunity to try some of their vegan cheezes....I fell in love with the smoked cheddar and bought some to take home. The (I believe husband and wife?) duo were friendly to us, with that small-town charm that might seem invasive to others not used to probing questions. All in all, I'd like to visit again in the summer season.

All I can say is...The Rock Salt next door has great drinks and food at a reasonable rate and the staff are amazing... they are always friendly and welcoming!! Don't waste your time and money supporting the ignorant owners of the Morningside Bakery.

Went in to look at the books, decided to eat, and very glad that we did.Turmeric latte was amazingly fresh, very well made. Perfect. Manon, the server was incredibly friendly, and Alan, the owner was sitting at a table in the outside 'covered' area and struck up a very pleasant conversation with us about food, chefs, plating, etc. when he overheard me showing my partner a few recipes in a vegetarian cookbook that they had.Now, I DID go through and read about 20 or so reviews and there was a general them of 'rudeness' in them. Maybe something has happened since these reviews, because quite frankly, it was the best service I/we have had in a very long time. As a matter of fact, we were glad we patronized this restaurant.Food quality was above and beyond, presentation was beautiful, and we would most definitely go back. If I, or we, had encountered rudeness, we would have been the first to say so here. We did not, so we will go with OUR experience, and it was very very good.Out of something bad, must come something good. If there HAS been rudeness, it certainly looks to have been addressed, as we noted several customers both before and after us, were ALL treated very well, with 'thank you's' overheard by the customers.As hard as it may be for some, we would recommend going a 2nd time. I personally will attend a place of business a 2nd time if I have had an unpleasant experience, and I also, very nicely, will tell ANYONE if I feel I have been treated poorly, right there, and right then.As I said, we'll be back.

I was happily taking a photo of fulford, dropping my kids at the ferry... standing across the road from this establishment. I noted a lady setting up chairs outside. All of a sudden she lets out this massive sigh of exasperation because I was snapping a picture. Disgusting behavior by a local who makes a living off of tourism. Zero Stars...do not go here!

Enter at your own risk...Are you in saltspring island and looking for the experience of a lifetime? Look no further. If you're lucky, this place will be open on a sunny Tuesday morning. Is it a cafe? Is it a restaurant? Is it all a scam? Who knows... that's the fun part. It's something new everyday. I think the witchy lady inside decides depending on her mood. Her energy is a bit abrasive. She had my girlfriend in a sort of spell, and managed to convince her to buy an 8$ matcha tea. She claimed to be the first one to make Matcha!!! My partner enjoyed it but felt very sus about drinking it. When we were there it was a café, with chocolates, coffee and many different naturopathic remedies scattered about in a cluttered and precarious manner. When she looks at you she reads you. To be honest she either likes you or she doesnt. Thats that. Just try to go in with an open mind and heart. But dont let your guard down...Shes crafty! Definitely never going back but 100% glad that we did. It left us with quite the interesting story to tell...

Every time we visit Salt Spring Island, we stop to this lovely gem, where the service it’s so amazing. Me and my wife we had the pleasure to meet Manon and her friend who were very knowledgeable about there products. Great place for vegan, and best coffee on the island. The book’s selection is fantastic too.You won’t be disappointed with anything. Absolutely the best.

We stopped into Morningside on our second visit to Fulford. First trip we went into Rock Salt next door so wanted to check out the other cafe in search of a coffee. We were not catching the ferry either time so not in a hurry. Immediately loved the unique architecture of the space which smells amazing! The barista gave us some suggestions of drinks, I chose an oat latte which was delicious and she convinced my husband to try her matcha latte. I didn’t think he’d like it but he absolutely loved it! She even showed us how to make it at home.We were not aware of any reviews prior to going in so arrived with open minds. It is clearly advertised as a vegan cafe so I did not expect to have cows milk or cream available. I didn’t inquire about sweetener for my coffee as I always have some stevia with me but I’m sure honey/agave/etc are available if you like your coffee sweet.We will happily go back and look forward to trying some other drinks and food as well. If you want a quick standard coffee before catching the ferry, you are probably better off going in next door.
