Let's say... Ocean Front Village is trending... towards Four Stars. There really are two levels of reviews for this facility: Firstly, for the building and its suites: Well-designed with a nautical theme in The Cedar Room (the main dining area) Each floor has a theme designed to help you navigate to the elevators and your suite. The building is a solid 4-star performer for sure. Some of the design elements clearly reflect the history of the Comox Valley. We have been here for about four months and have a one-bedroom suite on the third floor with an estuary view. The floor plan has worked much better than we had expected. Those nearly 9-foot ceilings make the living areas feel very large and comfortable. The floor plans really don't do justice to the liveability of our new home. We moved from a 3-bedroom, 1,500 sq. foot two level townhome to our 650 sq. foot, one bedroom suite... So, naturally we did considerable editing and downsizing of furnishings and personal items. Due to construction delays we had significant time to 'make mental adjustments' to our psyches as well... enabling us to live in a much smaller space harmoniously. The Overall 'feeling' of Ocean Front Village is that of a residential hotel... There is a Bistro and gathering area on the main floor that we gravitate to a couple of times a day for tea or coffee and sometimes to chat with new friends. There is a games room, hair salon, library, craft room and an equipped exercise room where three mornings a week, there are exercise classes to improve balance and range of motion for seniors.Ocean Front Village is situated right on the Courtenay Riverway Trail where you can safely walk or cycle for up to about 10 Km on a loop - mostly along the oceanside trail and around the Courtenay Air Park. You can hike or bike even further towards Royston on the new Millard Trail extension.Secondly, about the initial grumbling over the food and the parking garage entranceway... Initially the meal quality was pretty iffy, but since the addition of Chef Don to the kitchen our meals have been improving in variety and quality. Our Chef routinely checks in with the guests in the dining room to see how we are enjoying our meals and if we have suggestions in how to improve our dining experience. A new baker has been added to the kitchen - she is pretty consistently providing an interesting variety of desserts for each evening. The Bistro serves typical pub grub and is licensed for serving alcoholic beverages after 4PM. It's an alternative place to eat a few times a month or more often if you prefer. We enjoy eating in the dining room and have found a number of interesting dining companions... There's more than one table that we are welcome at. It is pretty easy to find like-minded friends to enjoy your evening meal with.Yes, there were significant problems with the design of the entranceway to the underground parking... Those issues have been fully resolved with a redesign of the approach to the garage and the provision of 'fobs' to residents for opening of the garage door. Golden Life Management did listen to the residents and corrected the parking access. The underground parking spaces are generously wide...easier to pull into than many of the mall parking spaces in town.Moving to Ocean Front Village was a great decision for us. Our living has been greatly simplified... food is good... staff is fun and very helpful. I'm in the mood for staying...!

We moved in on the first day of occupancy and loved our new home and all the amenities. The meals have gone from okay to FANTASTIC with a red seal Chef who has joined the team. The meals Don puts out are so good it feels like dining in the finest restaurant every night. There are so many activities you can do something different every day. We are spending our golden years in an amazing place with amazing friends and wonderful staff.Joan & Mike

I am posting for my friend who is a resident of Ocean Front. Who waited patiently for her suite to finally be available. The cleaning staff does excellent work. However, the chefs falls short in providing anything close to diner" food. She states its terrible! Mostly prepackaged foods nothing that is prepaired by world class culinary chefs in their state of the art kitchen as advertised. Salads and deserts also fall short. There are rules that one must sit in their assigned chair regardless of if you enjoy your dinner company or not. There is an activities room that is always empty and a gym thats always closed.Right now there are several covid cases that are in quarantine. The parking lot was not designed properly and several residents have damaged their cars. The list goes on. Make sure this is where you truly want to live at 3

I am writing on my 82 yr old mum who was one of the first to move into Ocean View. Everything Teresa stated below, in her review is true. I just wanted to add that the meals are also served cold and many nights they run out.My mum doesn’t get the weekly house keeping that she pays for, again do to short staffing issues. She also makes most of her own meals as the food they serve in the dinning room makes her ill.
