Extendicare West End Villa

Worst place ever, My friend has been waiting to see a doctor for over a month and when you ask about it they try to turn it on you and take NO accountability, People are quitting left and right, They have not had a social worker in months!!! I cannot wait until she is moved out of there

I have mixed feelings about WEV. The staff who have worked with my mother, mother in law and another relative have been incredible. But the truth is they are understaffed and as a result the response times for assistance can be unacceptably long and the quality of care does suffer as a result. There are some house keeping issues like missing clothes, rooms that could be cleaner and broken furniture that need to be addressed but there too, the lack of adequate staffing plays a big role.

If I could give 0 stars I would. My grandfather was transfered to the hospital and passed away all by himself because Extendicare West End Villa failed to contact my family who were notified by his finance lawyer 4 days after to make arrangements. Not only that, they lost phone contact information ( They had correct email contact but failed to exhaust their measures) So they took it upon themselves to re appoint his power of attorney. The Director of Care Anissa, is the most unprofessional and uncompassionate health care worker I have ever met. ( I work in longterm care) She laughed in my face when I asked for her to get to the bottom of why their files are missing, talked to my mother and I in a condescending tone and failed to provide any comfort or responsibility. Due to her and the administrations lack of responsibility I hope the Ministry of Long Term Care can give us answers and prevent this from happening to others.

I have been very pleased with the care my mother is receiving at the west end villa. Yes, it is an older building, however the quality of care is more important then how modern the facilities are. The staff are always pleasant, willing to answer any and all questions and most importantly my mom is always commenting on how nice everyone is there. They are checking on her regularly and always greet her with a smile and try to cheer her up a little when they stop by. Happy to recommend this long term care facility.

My mother was found dead on the floor. She often complained that the nurses yelled at her. Her jewelry was also stolen. She did't have much but her family ring meant a lot and that was also one of the stolen items. Although it was 14 years ago that she died there, it still haunts me that she was found dead on the floor and I often wonder if she was calling for help and no help came; if she fell out of bed surely someone would have heard her. She was a large woman. My heart still hurts as she was a wonderful woman who in her better days volunteered at several hospitals and always helping others.

My Mom spent her last years at the West End Villa. Most of the staff are caring and compassionate. It's a difficult time of life but I have to say that Mom appreciated the staff. They have a WONDERFUL activity department and I do not believe that you could find a more organize and active program...thank you!! The residents attend 67's hockey games, outings to see the Christmas lights, the Tulip Festival and regular restaurant trips. Mom was doing something almost every day and if she didn't attend something, it was her choice not to go...outings at least 2X a month. Music entertainment at least 2X a month. At least it seemed like it was this often because Mom was always on the go! Regular church service and and non-denominational service. Reverend Sam is so caring. She buried Mom for us...Mom loved her...as does the other residents!!Don't judge the whole establishment by the actions of a few!! I've watched a staff tuck my Mom and her room mate into bed every night that they worked and give them a kiss on the forehead goodnight. I've watched staff sit and comfort someone who was so confused , they had no idea where they were. There are some wonderful people there...when their families are not!!

Poor nursing quality, untrained staff, no direction or discipline of staff. Everything has to be brought to staff's attention in terms of care before they do anything. Employees are loud, and impolite and do the least possible.

Im a patient here. I could not be happier with the staff on the 4th and 5th floor and, the cleaning staff. However the staff of the extendicare whice is the 3rd and 2nd floor as well as kitchen and all other staff are horrible. They bully us harass us persistently. Ive seen seniors from the 3rd floor crying because their scared.

NOT RECOMMENDED!Sadly we are not able visit our relative very often. When we or friends went, there seemed to be a lack of care. His dresser was severely broken, bedside table was empty and full of dried shaving cream, items missing from his room. Upon one visit we did not find our relative in his room, we asked the nursing staff and they did not know who we were talking about let alone where he was. Eventually we found out he was sent to the hospital earlier in the day. We were shocked that they did not know nor notify us in a timely way. The first time we went to see our relative was his arrival day...no one came to speak to us, or show us around. On every visit after, non of the nurses ever came to talk to us or offer any information on his well being and certainly not inquire who we were visiting. Basically anyone can come in and hang out w/ a resident. Our relative was sent to the emergency room for severe dehydration. How did this happen? We filed a report to the nursing home and after two weeks I phoned to follow up. They were not initially aware of the report and when they did acknowledge our issues, it was too late our relative had passed on. We received a condolence from a resident and one from the director. The staff never offered to help, inform or give condolences the day we went in to remove his belongings. Very disappointed in the service there.

My mom died here. She was not there longer than 2 months. She got soooo depressed because a lack of social interaction between her and staff. She was sicker than I realized, but one time I visited, staff member wore a very ripped glove to test her blood sugar levels. I was so shocked. I do not think they change gloves between clients. I miss my Mom…
