Juravinski Hospital

I had to go to the emergency department as a result of stitches coming apart resulting in blood streaming from the wound. I was promptly taken to a room and checked by the nursing staff who called for a doctor to add more stitches to stop the bleeding. Dr. Julian Owen who was on night shift duty quickly sized up the situation and got the necessary freezing and equipment to close the leaking stitches. He cleaned up the blood, applied freezing and proceeded to stitch me up again. They waited about 20 minutes to be sure there was no more leaking and took a blood test to check the plasma levels. While waiting for the test results ice was applied to the area due to the swelling. When the results came back I was cleared to return home.I must say that this experience in the emergency department was very good and Dr. Owen and the night shift team were excellent.

I'm the past two and a half years I have spent over half of that time in Juravinski Hospital as a result of various illnesses. In short, I'm extremely grateful for all they have done for me. Keeping me alive when my prognosis was very poor, on two occasions especially!It's disappointing to read posts by people who went to emergency and complain about wait times. I've learned through personal experience and discussions with medical staff that this department is extremely busy and it's impossible to please everybody, for many reasons. Complaining about wait times in the emergency departments is an exercise in futility. Expecting fast service will only happen for critical patients and you will have to wait if you've been assessed as less serious, as they are a priority. New arrivals may bump you further down the list of people waiting if more critical and this may be frustrating but ALL hospitals run this way and it is super frustrating; however, you'll appreciate this system when and if you ever are critically ill. I can certainly attest to this practice and for their being a rating scale that aims to care for the most serious first, as it saved my life! I also have spent hours waiting on stretchers to be seen, but that's just the way the system works.That said, I've received excellent care by almost all staff, including but not limited to nurses, doctors, food service personnel, diagnostic technicians, surgeons and the list goes on. I'm not suggesting that there hasn't been some staff that need attitude adjustments and might be working in the wrong field or that some procedures went wrong because it happened and that is a fact. These problems will be dealt and addressed another time. Overall, I recommend Juravinski Hospital to all who are in need of good care, but don't expect perfection because that is not realistic in my opinion. I wish everyone the best, especially those that took and are taking care of me presently. Stay safe.

My grandad had a hip replacement via Same Day Surgery, and it was an amazing experience. I cannot emphasize how kind and patient the pre-Op nurse, anesthesiologists, OR nurse, physio, post op nurse, and even environmental services were ! I've never seen such a beautiful caring team in a hospital before.

I was rushed to Juravinski in November, 2022 with a serious bacteria infection. I Jumped the que because my death was imminent vs. other surgeries at the time. Dr. Steven Kelly operated on me within hours of arrival and with the help of the CT scan, he realized that I had gangrene and that I was 1-2 days away from death. He operated and I spent a week in ICU and another week recovering on the 6th floor, and I have never been healthier. My wound has healed from the inside out and I have never felt better. I have had several follow-up visits with him, and I keep telling him that I owe my life to him. Imagine getting the Chief Surgeon to operate on me. There was a tag above my belly button that said ostimy bag, but it wasn't necessary due to his skills of surgery and fixing the problem. I intend to donate a substantial amount to Juravinski on my death, if not before.

From the first person in registration to the last post op nurse was a positive experience. I believe it was Kristin in same day surgery giving me instructions and items to change into, Chris putting in the IV and preparing me for surgery, Antonio and Melissa in recovery and then to Hazel in post op. All of them were fabulous and had fantastic bed side manner. Do not let Antonio go after his studies. He was extremely caring and so positive, he is well suited for the job. I was in great care and in a well organize and clean facility. Oh all most forgot Dr. Forbes and his team in surgery were fabulous too, so calming and reassuring.THANK YOU SO MUCHJEN

Esophageal Cancer diagnosed 2019. From Chemo through Radiation, every staff member were amazing. The team assigned were absolutely incredible. Caring does not begin to describe how I was treated. An absolutely incredible hospital and staff. So incredibly grateful to all.

Had random extreme pain lower right side out of nowhere. I had an ambulance ride to jurvanski, although the wait is always going to be a concern, they managed to get the CT scan, diagnosis and pain management under control for next day release. My pain is gone, thank you to all the courteous staff.

Came here today for a procedure from another city. I was so nervous and feeling alone but the nurses and staff were so kind and comforting. They provided everything I needed and took such great care of me. Even stayed patient while I cried on fear. I will recommend this hospital 5/5!

Waited for 5 hours for my wife to be seen by a doctor. The ER nurse, white hair, caucasian with glasses on - the worst racist Karen I ever seen in my life. She was only nice to the white people and was way racist and rude to people of colour. She was extremely rude to my ill wife - we asked her only once when can we see the doctor - she extremely rude - shouted at me - “HOW MANY TIMES YOU WILL ASK ME QUESTIONS”, that Was the first time we asked her anything as she was already pretty rude to other people of colour and we were scared to ask her anything. I hope there is a training given to these stupid nurses who dont have any etiquettes, I was not able to catch her name. I understand there is a shortage of doctors and triage wait time increases, but nurses should not be racist and rude to already frustrated patients and family members. Shame to this Hospital for practising racism in the ER.

This is the worst hospital. If you want to go to maybe a better one, don't go to this one. My boyfriend had a seizure and had tests done and they put him in the hallway because there were no rooms and he was there for probably over 8 hours and still in the hallway and even after he was finally ready to go home, they didn't give him anything and he was still in the hallway waiting for a room and never got into one, so I wouldn't waste your time here at all. The check in representative was so rude and wouldn't give any information on what was going on either. I would not recommend going there
