Been a union member for some 44 years, I have two trade certs and still two apprenticeships I'm working on. The union brotherhood has always supported my advancement of skills.

I waisted 2 years with them and also because I quit they took my pension money

The assessment exam is not that much hard but their is selection committee where they make hidden discrimination especially on immigrants. It is waste of money and time to go ARIS programme. Its purposefully designed to hide their agenda. They don't explian their basic criteria for selection which make them safe. Don't try to buy the 45 dollar reading materials its pure scam.

Top of the line trades people. Very good apprenticeship program.

One of the stronger unions in AB. The union isn't perfect but it taught me a trade, paid me better money than I've ever made in my life, and fought for us. I had a real good laugh looking at the negative reviews for 146. All people that couldn't make it. It's not easy stuff. You will work for it, but once you're in, you're a brother for life.

First class organization, been through all the programs from start to finish. The training center and staff and welding center make it possible to complete all your goals.Speaking from experience myself,and my own persistance.Its your choice whether or not you choose union, but it was the right choice for me.

Buying the study guide to study for the exam is a scam, a portion of the exam is vague; it doesn't reflect the contents of the study guide.ARIS is a hoax, the so-called selection committee accept people that look like them, there is no broad room for immigrants. They have no standardized protocol on their criteria for acceptance, it's a compromised program.

I was a welding apprentice with them for few years. Only good thing I got out of it, was doing my technical training. I really appreciate that opportunity because I got all my certification, B, Red Seal... That was great.However...I would have to say, this is not the right place for a welding apprenticeship. There is NO welding whatsoever on the job with these guys.You go do shutdowns and spin wrenches, clean toxic sludge, go in dirty holes and do boilermaker stuff, pay your dues to be a boilermaker. Which is fine, for a boilermaker. But NOT for a welder, really useless apprenticeship model for welders, I'm not sure how they get away with having welding apprentices here.Can't even use the welding center they have there, they're constantly give you a hard time and look for reasons to avoid helping you. It's mostly a testing center for jr welders.Not a good place for welding apprentices, might as well become a boilermaker if you want to work here.
