First Steps Academy

We are so pleased with FSA!! Our now 4 year old boy, Rowan starting going here last year. His teachers especially Ms. Tara & Ms. Myra have been extraordinary with him and we would recommend FSA to prospective families.

We love First Steps Academy! Our kids have gone there for over 3 years now and we have been so happy with the caring, professional staff. The previous review baffles me as I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this preschool and everyone that works there. I am very particular about what my kids eat and am very happy with the meals provided. I would highly recommend this preschool, they follow licensing to a T" and proved a caring and safe environment."

My daughter absolutely loves her school and teachers, I have nothing but great things to say about FSA! I am greeted every morning and every afternoon by all the teachers. My daughter takes about her lunches and snacks with great enthusiasm. She loves to describe her days to me with is always full of crafts, writing, math, reading, meditation time, outdoor play, walks,show & tell and many more activities! I reccomend this place to anyone thinking of placing their child at FSA! They are in good hands!

My Daughter has been going to FSA for 3 years now. I find the staff wonderfully friendly and respectful. They ensure the ratio of supervisors to kids is maintained and look after the children as if they were family. My daughter is shy, but has no problems doling out hugs when I go to pick her up. They environment is to have the kids learning which is evident when my daughter tells me she did in her day there. I have no issue recommending FSA to any parent.

We have been using FSA off and on for almost five years now and we have always been happy with them. The office staff is extremely helpful and FSA is always organized and runs efficiently. FSA is clean and tidy and the teachers are really nice. There are a lot of games and activities for the kids to play and they’re open up early at 7:00am and open late until 6:00pm which is convenient. There is plenty of parking in front and each child has a cubbie and a small bin for their outdoor boots. FSA has always been accommodating, welcoming and a great place for before and after care.

My son attended the before and after school program for a year at FSA after attending preschool at Joso's down the street for two years. As a result we were able to directly compare the two facilities. FSA has a higher staff turnover rate, the facility is not quite as well set up (not all rooms have windows), and the activities don't seem to be quite as well organized. Of greatest concern though is the attention that was given to parents with unsubstantiated concerns; management was observed to react as opposed to respond to issues that were brought to their attention and administer disciplinary measures without even knowing the whole story. It became clear that their primary goal was to satisfy the complainant (at the expense of the victim) rather than to seek the truth. One of the complainants issues did not even occur on the FSA premises, and yet FSA, in the face of one parent threatening to leave, felt that it was their job to step in and discipline the offending child for an issue that occurred elsewhere and outside of FSA care hours. Talk about acting outside of your jurisdiction. Prospective parents, you may want to re-think your choice.

Our kids have been part of the First Steps and Big Steps family for a while now and we have nothing but good things to say about the facility and staff. Our kids have a great time there, the B&A program works really well - both for Kinder and Grades 1 and up. Our daughter also attended the full-time preschool for two years and it was a great experience.

My son loves going to FSA. He has been in another 2 day cares and FSA has been the best child care experience that we have had so far. Ms. Megan in preschool is doing an amazing job.

Horrible place to work, bad management, when I had my tour for my 3 years old, teachers were so great and engaged with the children. but they look so tired and exhausted. There were many children in one class Fossil, Elbow. Deborah gave me tour, based on what she was saying, she has zero knowledge of what curriculum they are using. She confused me of emergent and play based and Montessori. I had to go home and research for my self. The play area was far from the centre, children had to walk to the other daycare KidsU to play. There was another play area but it's too small and crowded for many children. All their toys are made of plastics and with Value Village sticker price tags. Books are torn and dilapidated. Kitchen was small dirty with all the plates were piled up on the counter and on the floor.Tuition fee is high for the materials the children are using.I met another lady, Te, I was told she's the owner. She did not acknowledge me or my child. Looked at me and looked down and continued playing with her iphone. No connection. No to this place!

We've been with First Steps since the day they opened their doors. Aside from a few little hiccups which is common for any new business within their first year, we have no issues. The staff love the children and are so good and caring with them. Even teachers not in my children's class know who the kids are and give updates to me when I pick them up on how good the kids were or any struggles they may be facing. I love knowing that my child is well cared for and is treated like a little human not just a number. My children have learned so much being there and are beyond ready for Kindergarten before they even start Kindergarten. The kids love the teachers and the teachers love the kids. No complaints aside from a higher price range but again it's comparable for the area and food and activities are all included.
