My partner first reached out to Jarek in Spring 2021. As interest rates were dropping, we wanted to know if it was worth it to break our mortgage and renew at a lower rate. During that same conversation, he also patiently explained the pros and cons of fixed/variable rate mortgages and how interest rates work with the Bank of Canada and retail banks. He stressed to us how the lowest rate product is not the best product for everyone. He clearly explained the current and future savings of this product, the prepayment options, and the fees associated with switching lenders. Jarek also took into account our current life situation and prioritized products with greater flexibility. He never once suggested those very low rate products with a bonafide sales clause. Having heard Jarek's warnings about the lack of flexibility in low rate products since last year, we knew he had our best interests at heart.Although we didn't end up pursuing the particular product he offered, Jarek was gracious enough to offer us some parting advice with regards to negotiating a better product with our current lender. And it worked! We were able to negotiate a better rate thanks to his advice! It was clear to us that Jarek seeks to educate his clients such that they can make an informed decision. Renewing our mortgage right as interest rates were going up was very daunting. We had never used a mortgage broker before and weren't sure whether we needed one. At one point the lender made a small clerical error which resulted in a stressful curveball, and when Jarek found out he very quickly was able to correct it by dealing with the lender and our lawyer.
