I was warned by nursing colleagues to do this; their own experience was that ONA works for the employer. Legally you are allowed to record any conversation in which you participate. Recording devices that are discreet are worth their weight in gold. I recorded a meeting, and the minutes of that meeting - generated by ONA and an arbitrator - did not align with the real-time meeting. Recording the meeting in its entirety was essential. Advocate for patient safety, no matter how brutally you are treated by ONA. Know your CNO Practice Standards inside and out. If your workplace has unsafe policies, you complain, and ONA does nothing about them, consider filing a complaint with the CNO and the LSoO, against ONA employees. Patient safety is paramount. Document everything. Put it in writing to employer and ONA; blind copy other trusted email addresses. So many unsafe patient situations are facilitated by employers. In my case, ONA was complicit.
