James just completed a radon mitigation on my home, which I am getting ready to put on the market. He was always available for my questions and concerns. He was very prompt and uses quality materials. He guarantees his work, another reason to feel satisfied. He made a shocking discovery a lot easier to experience, and I feel confident about selling a safe home.

James recently did a home inspection for me. He was extremely responsive and thorough. He walked me through everything we were looking at and answered any questions I had. It's obvious he is knowledgeable and knows what to look for and I had my inspection report as soon as we were finished. I would recommend him for anyone looking for a home inspection.

Conducted a very thorough home inspection and radon test on a home we are buying. Was friendly, informative and very professional. I would not hesitate to recommend him.

James certainly knows his stuff and how to identify what issues are going to lead to problems down the road. His reports clearly break down the parts that make up a house, and if there are any issues he highlights them according to severity along with plenty of pictures. We received a very thorough report and feel confident that we won't have any big surprises moving forward.

I hired James for both my home inspection and to install my radon mitigation system and if you ar in his range, I'd recommend him to anyone. I am a new home owner who boughg a fixer upper, and james was really thorough in his inspection. He explained everything, including the best/easiest ways to improve the durability and waterproofing. For example, he noticed a tiny gas leak and taught me how to locate them on the pipe and what I would need to fix it. It was so small and the sound as so faint, i could imagine that would easily be missed. And also importantly, our radon levels went down to almost nothing. His rates were very reasonable, and he wa friendly and really responsive to all of my questions and concerns. I would feel significantly less confident about this house if it werent for James, use him if you can.

I am currently selling my home 6 bedroom 7 bath built back in 1860 and the potential buyers use mr. How well as an inspector. I've done a little time with property management and thought I knew my way around some of these older properties. This guy taught me a lesson actually several. Not only did he find things that I had honestly never seen before what impressed me most was his knowledge and willingness to explain to both parties what's good what's bad and what needs to be monitored I found him extremely fair and knowledgeable I would recommend him to anyone purchasing a home.I guess I should add that this inspection just took place recently I have not and the buyers have not to my knowledge seen any reports I'm giving this review upfront without knowing what his recommendations will be to my potential buyers if he had done a pretty good job I would have gave him a 4 but that's not what he rates...

Jim Howell is a phenomenal resource for home inspections. Very straight forward which I appreciate before making an offer on a home. I don't want/need the fluff, I need/want to know what the pros & cons are of the home I am considering. Jim did just that. Showed up early, did a complete inspection, provided quick report, and took his time to explain the observations he made during the inspection. Highly recommend calling Jim for your next home inspection!

On time, HONEST, and could translate technical terms into laymen’s terms.

Spent less than 1.5 hours inspecting a 4,000 square foot home. Missed obvious signs of water damage that have so far cost me a fortune to remedy and didn’t even look at the roof, which has proven to be leaky and in need of repairs. Would have not bought this house if I had received an accurate inspection.EDIT: in response to the reply from owner the inspection was done in Ithaca on 6/7/19.

Purchased a home in Aug 2022 with an inspection done by Howell. Useless inspection to say the least. For starters, he didn't inspect over half of the attic or crawl space area because they were too hard to get to. We have since inspected these places only to find problem after problem that should have been reported by a proper inspector. In the attic, he missed a few roof leaks and wood rot on some of the plywood sheets. Additionally, our attic has vermiculite insulation under the fiberglass - would've liked to know that before I started working on installing recessed lights, not to mention before buying the home.In the crawl space, he missed a few floor joists which were so moldy and rotten that they crumble to the touch. In places, the sub-floor is rotted through such that you can see the hardwood floors from beneath. And the mice. There was a dead (like decaying been there awhile type dead) mouse under the refrigerator, droppings behind the range, and 4 dead mice and shovel-fulls of droppings behind and around the dishwasher. I'll grant that pulling a dishwasher out might not be common practice, but pulling out a fridge or a range to inspect behind them isn't difficult or time consuming.I'm not sure what he did other than open the cabinets. I can do that much and have since done much more than this professional and licensed" home inspector. He described it as a "well maintained home" in his verbose report.Unfortunately
