Northern Karate Schools

I am 25 year veteran of Northern Karate School Midtown and will never give up attending this wonderful school and excellent martial arts training. The curriculum which includes katas, weapons, sparring, self defence plus other martial art forms with guest instructors is varied, interesting and informative. The level of teaching is exceptionally high. I watch the instructors interact with both adults and children. Motivation, focus, self determination and respect for others are classic teaching tools at Northern Karate. The level of caring, support and friendship exist in a healthy learning environment. As a parent and grandparent, I am truly blessed to have discovered Northern Karate School. With its flexible class schedule for adults and children every day, I can heartily recommend this martial arts program to adults who feel insecure about their own abilities to improve physical fitness. Before I joined Northern Karate I had been a member of 3 other karate clubs. Nothing I had ever experienced before impressed me as much as this school does.When my daughter wanted to learn karate I signed her up at NKS. I sat with other parents wondering why I was watching my daughter train instead of training with her. So I joined up myself. That was over 20 years ago. I am still training and even do volunteer teaching there.The breadth of martial arts education, and quality of instruction at Northern Karate is the best I have ever experienced at any karate school. The dedication of the both the students, and the teachers who inspire them, is a wonderful thing to behold. Were it not so I wouldn’t still be there. And wouldn’t be recommending it to anyone who ever asks me about learning this amazing martial art.

I have been learning Karate for almost 30 years. I have owned and operated my own school in Uxbridge for 23 of those years and have spent almost 11 regularly training at Northern Karate. It is usually over an hour drive depending on traffic for me to get there from our location but each class is worth more than every minute and every dollar spent on gas.There is no better place to learn Karate and I must include my own school when I say that.The only reason that I am giving 5 stars is because I cannot give more. Choosing Northern Karate is the best decision you will ever make.

My wife and kids train at Northern and we absolutely love it. The instruction and curriculum are world class, but what makes Northern truly unique is the family atmosphere. The instructors make you feel like you have joined their family, and go out of their way to make the kids feel cared for, respected and like part of a team. My daughters have shown marked improvement in their confidence, self-discipline and ability to manage their feelings. My wife just celebrated her 20th anniversary training here. Highly highly recommend.

I joined Northern Karate Schools Midtown in 1996, and I am so glad I did – it has been an extraordinarily rewarding and enjoyable learning experience. The curriculum is diverse and includes both empty hand and weapons katas from several Okinawan styles of karate, as well as self-defence, grappling, and sparring; the teaching is first class; and there are students of all ages from five to 85 years of age.Hanshi Cezar Borkowski, the founder, is internationally recognized and respected not only for his exemplary martial arts skills but for his research, writing, and teachings in the field. His devotion to the history and preservation of the martial arts is laudable.I have never stopped learning, and I never will.

Six years ago my daughter was so excited to hear about a 6 week course provided by Northern Karate at her school. She loved every minute and asked if she could permanently join at the dojo. My husband and I were very happy and proud that she found something of interest. And it came at a perfect time as there were some issues with bullying. So we gladly enrolled her. She worked hard and started gaining more confidence and quickly gained her yellow belt. Amazing!Little did I know that soon after I would be joining her. I was taking her to classes and since I was there proudly watching her practice, I was asked by one of the incredible instructors if I'd like to join. I was very interested but never in a million years did I think I could do this. Well, I was proven wrong. My daughter and I are both currently on our brown advanced belts, working our personal best to gain our black belts. And all thanks to the amazing instructors for their guidance, support and great teachings in getting us there. We are so very blessed.

A wonderful blend of traditional and progressive martial arts training. Instructors really care about their students inside and outside of the dojo. My daughter started 6 years ago at the age of 4. We wanted her to train in order to help her build confidence, be more comfortable with falling down and getting back up in front of others (she gets that from her mama). I had always had an interest in martial arts but was too intimidated to start as an adult. However, I saw how much it had helped my daughter and watched other parents enjoying their personal best journey with their child(ren) and decided it was time to led by example and enrolled myself. It has changed both of our lives. We are both stronger physically, mentally and spiritually.

From my very first visit to Northern Karate I felt absolutely welcome, respected and safe. I've now been training here for twenty years. It has not only been an opportunity to learn karate from some of the finest, most skilled, most compassionate teachers in the country, but also transformed my level of physical fitness. Now, my children have started training here and in my opinion they have the finest children's athletic program I've ever seen. From top to bottom, the instructors are first-rate, genuinely caring and supportive of children at every level of skill and ability. The kids are not only learning karate, they are also learning respect, self-discipline, mentoring, teamwork, courtesy and self-regulation. Northern Karate has become a second family to me, and I recommend them 1000%.

I have fond memories as a boy growing up within the confines of this amazing institution. Although my time spent there ended at 16 years old (im 39 now), the memories, lessons and most of all good morals have always stayed with me throughout my life. I would always recommend sending your kids for not only lessons in Karate, but lessons in life that will only help flourish the person your supposed to become.
