Chartwell Birchwood Retirement Residence

I have celebrated one year as a resident of Birchwood Retirement Home. I am fortunate to lease one of the twelve cottages attached to the main building. It could not have been a better choice as I enjoy the privacy and comfort that this new home has been to me. Throughout the year Birchwood has continued to be run very efficiently despite staff and management shortages. The staff are a great team and able to fil gaps by willing to fill in and do jobs that are not usually their responsibility.In recent weeks a new manager has been appointment who has fitted in well with the Birchwood family and has an impressive leadership style that contributes to the overall family approach to both staff and residents. She, too, fits in and prepared to fill in when staff are in short supply. As many of us, both staff and residents, have decided she is a keeper . It is a pleasure to have a manager that takes time out to get to know us all and does not hide away in her office. Both staff ad residents are fortunate to have her as our manager. Birchwood is a great place to be a resident and to enjoy all the many programmes that keep us occupied and help us get to now each other. The food is great too and one hear lots of laughter and chatter during meals and other activities..Jack Jackaman

Our mom felt she needed to move from her Independent Living facility in Abbotsford to an assisted living residence earlier this fall. We toured a couple of facilities and Chartwell Birchwood immediately won her and our high approval. First, the facility location and layout perfectly met her need for an active environment. Second, the team are so friendly, attentive, caring and focused on the needs of their clients! During our initial tours, the meeting of staff, and the initial medical review of mom's conditions and needs, it was very clear that this was where she would be extremely well cared for!All of the team are amazing! There are a few that deserve specific recognition!Tracy Penner- Tracy listened closely to mom's needs, and worked extremely hard to make the move happen much sooner than we anticipated!Marci Rozsa- Marci has had to deal with significant challenges during mom's short time in residence, including a COVID concern and shutdown, and most recently the flooding in the lower mainland. Her management of these issues has been truly professional, and with the focus on her residents and their physical and mental well being. Marci has the management skills I always sought in people I hired throughout my career.Kirstin Truman- Mom has some physical challenges that require a good amount of attention. With Kirsten, it is like mom has her own personal medical professional! Not only does she and her team work closely with mom, but she also keeps the family very well informed and provides guidance and assistance where we need it!The Kitchen Team- Mom has a number of food allergies and sensitivities. The kitchen team have gone above and beyond to spend time with her, learning her needs and preferences, and have made significant and successful efforts to meet them!I enthusiastically recommend Chartwell Birchwood and their amazing team!

The Birchwood team has been amazing through the pandemic. Our family couldn't be happier with the care for our loved one. Throughout the pandemic and now the floods they have kept us up to date and kept spirits high and their residents safe and healthy. Amazing job, thank you!

Our Mom was at Chartwell Lynwood for about 3 years. Lynwood is very well run by personable management and staff. She now requires assisted living and has therefore moved to Chartwell Birchwood a few weeks ago (as of this writing). The Management, staff, and facility at Birchwood did not disappoint! It's the perfect place for our beloved Mother.

We recently moved my brother in to Chartwell Birchwood and we’ve been very pleased with our decision. From the first time we visited the residence we were welcomed with enthusiasm and positivity from the staff and the residents we met. All of our concerns and questions were met with understanding and assurance that everything would be looked after and they were. The transition has been relatively seamless and my brother has settled in nicely. The care and compassion exhibited by all the staff from management through all employees has been exemplary. Every time I mention something that he would like attended to it is immediately addressed to his satisfaction. We would highly recommend Chartwell Birchwood in Chilliwack to anyone considering a move to assisted living…you will not be disappointed.

My father has been living at Birchwood for just over 2 years now. He is very happy there. My interaction with the staff there has always been excellent. They are very attentive to my fathers needs. During the Covid pandemic they have gone above and beyond to keep the residents safe. The logistic challenges they face are daunting and they continue to provide exceptional service in a friendly and positive way. We are so thankful that we chose Birchwood for a great place for my Dad.

My mother has been a happy member of the Birchwood community for many years. When I visit Mom I am always impressed with the positive atmosphere that the staff foster at the residence. There is a real sense of respect and concern. This concern has been very evident in this COVID period with the enormous efforts that the staff have offered to the residents of the home to keep them safe. On behalf of my family, thank you very much!

Mom took up residence at Chartwell Birchwood in 2018. We could not have found a more nurturing, safe community for Mom to call home. Right from the first day, the staff went out of their way to be welcoming and showed their commitment to caring for their residents. Now, in this especially lengthy, difficult time, they have gone above and beyond with their diligence in ensuring everyone is kept safe, is kept engaged and informed. The hits keep coming this year and the management and staff at Birchwood keep on meeting each challenge with a positive can-do attitude. We cannot give enough praise to this group for their continued dedication and compassionate care. To us, they are our heroes.

I never thought we'd be in a situation where we can not go see mom, we live in Alberta and so have been supporting her from a distance. The one thing that has made this whole pandemic more bearable is that we know that mom is as safe as she can be at Birchwood. The staff at Birchwood have treated mom and other residents the way I imagine they would want their own loved ones treated and it has allowed us to have a sense of security that mom is ok. I hope the staff knows how very much they are appreciated and however hard it has been to not be able to see and be with our mom, Birchwood staff is outstanding and deserve praise and I think if Chartwell is reading this, they should get a raise for going above and beyond every day. The staff of Birchwood really care about their residents and it shows through their smiles and willingness to go the extra mile. It is so helpful to have people on staff that can look after prescriptions and monitor our family members well being. Mom says the meals are great as well and enjoys not having to cook... Keep up the good work.
