I highly recommend Karen for providing guidance and assistance through any challenging marriage, family, and/or personal situation. She has been a gift to my family and I during a very difficult time. My former wife filed for divorce about 6 years ago and moved out of the home, while I retained primary custody of 3 kids (8, 12, and 13 at the time). While Karen provided direct counseling to each of the 3, at various levels of frequency and concentration, she primarily helped me help them through this life-altering experience, that also coincided with significant natural developmental changes. I could always trust her to be honest and direct, which was particularly important in the many times I was not handling a situation in the best or correct manner. She treated the 3 kids (2 girls and 1 boy) in the uniqueness of each of their needs, personalities, and struggles. Her intelligence and credentials speak for themselves but her Catholic framework and prayer life provides a comprehensive and deeper understanding of who they are as persons; something missing from the other family and child psychologists I interacted with during this period. This is highlighted by my son (the oldest) singling her as the only one he wants to talk to (even more so than me, his father). He was struggling with other issues, in addition to his family trials, and met with several other counselors but she was (and still is) the only one he wants to confide in. It’s also important to understand that, while Karen’s intense Catholic faith and identity informs her approach and understanding of the human person, making her highly effective in her practice, she does not “preach” or try to convert; at all. She certainly invites integration of prayer, sacraments, spiritual reading, etc. into her practice (if the other is open) but she meets people where they are; no matter the religious or non-religious perspective. Again, understanding and compassion towards to whole human person is, in my opinion, what makes her so effective; independent of the other’s perspective or viewpoints. We live about 1 hour from Karen so much her guidance was provided via telephone or Skype so she’s very adaptable and accommodating to remote situations.
